[Targeted] Banana Republic, Gap, Old Navy Etc. Credit Cards Earning 10x Points On All Gas, Groceries & Dining Purchases With NO Cap

The Offer

  • A lot of Gap (and Gap stores like Banana Republic, Old Navy etc) credit card holders have reported receiving the following deal (not sure if it’s for all cardholders or not, let us know in the comments): From September 1st till October 31st earn 10x points on all Gas, Grocery & Dining Purchases

banana republic

The Fine Print

  • Must have received the mail out to be eligible
  • No cap on the amount of points you can earn

Our Verdict

These points can be redeemed for Gap gift cards (or similar at the other stores) and one point = one penny in gift cards. Gap gift cards can be resold for 72% of face value, basically meaning you can currently get 7.2% cash back on all gas, grocery & dining purchases. That’s incredible value, especially with no cap.

These credit cards are issued by Synchrony, but unfortunately the shopping cart trick doesn’t work for them so a hard pull will be done on your credit report if you apply. There have been similar deals in the past, but you might have to wait awhile for another one with no cap to come along and even then you might not be targeted so up to you if it’s worth applying or not.

I have this card and got the offer in the mail. How do you convert this to gift cards that are resellable? In the past they will send Reward certificates which contain an alphanumeric code and an expiration date. Are you suggesting that you can take the Reward certificate to a Gap/ BR/ ON store and use the certificate to purchase their gift cards? The terms and conditions appear to suggest that “Reward Cards cannot be credited to an account, redeemed for cash or cash equivalent, applied to past purchases, or used for purchasing gift cards.”, but perhaps this is not enforced in practice?

Received a same offer on Amazon rewards credit card.

    Dear ______,

You’re invited to earn a 10% Rewards Bonus on the rewards you already earn, an exclusive offer for select Cardmembers. Here’s how it works:

    – Activate your 10% Rewards Bonus by September 30, 2015

    – Use your Amazon.com Rewards Visa Card

    – Earn a 10% Rewards Bonus from September 1, 2015 through
    August 31, 2016 — that’s an additional 10 points for every
    100 points you already earn!

    • Joe says:

Is that 10% of the rewards, or 10% rewards?

That is, are you now getting 1.1% and 5.5% on Amazon, or 10% everywhere?

      It reads like the former.

      • Jason says:

10% of the reward.. nevermind. lol

“You will earn a 10% Monthly Bonus on all new points earned with your Amazon.com Rewards Visa card through August 31, 2016. Your bonus points are calculated each billing cycle based on the total points earned during that billing cycle.”

damn, my wife has one of these, but we just got the 3x promo in the mail. I’ll try calling/ send an email to see if they can match.

I have received 5x everywhere promo from gap. BTW, there is no way to convert it to gift cards online. Shows promo not available when trying to redeem for gc. The only way to redeem is to log in into gap account attached to the cc and buy merchandise. Have anyone been able to redeem for a gc in a store?

Just got something similar from Sears. 10% statement credits up to $100 per month theough Dec on gas, grocery, pharmacy, and restaurant purchases. Easy $300 by buying 2 vgcs from CVS each month.

As others have mentioned, I don’t believe there’s any way to convert the points/certificates into gift cards that can be resold. Even if you buy/return merchandise, you receive points back in your account which eventually turn into certificates again.
