The Fine Print
- Offer is available only to specially designated credit card account customers from December 17-31, 2018.
- Offer limited to 5,000 extra points per account.
- Offer is non-transferable.
- These additional bonus points are calculated off of Base Point earning only and are not calculated off of any other Bonus Points that you may be earning through your rewards program. For more information about Base Points refer to your reward program terms and conditions.
- In order to qualify for this offer you must make net Purchases of any amount with your BBVA Compass Visa Credit Card from December 17-31, 2018.
- A “Purchase” is any purchase made with your BBVA Compass Visa Credit Card that is processed or submitted through the Visa U.S.A. Inc. payment system.
- Payments of existing card balances, balance transfers, cash advances, ATM transactions, convenience checks, fees charged by us (for example, finance charges, and related service charges, if any apply), purchases of prepaid or reloadable cards such as certain gift cards, purchases of quasi-cash items (for example, casino chips), purchases of cash equivalents or payment instruments that can readily be converted to cash (for example, travelers cheques, money orders, wire transfers, and similar products or services) and purchases made using a Personal Identification Number (PIN) or initiated through identification technology that substitutes for a PIN, are not Purchases.
- Otherwise qualifying Purchases made using third-party payment accounts, mobile or wireless card readers, virtual wallets, or similar technology may not qualify to earn extra points for purchases in a specific category code if that technology is not set up to process the purchase in that category.
- Your account must remain open and in good standing to receive the bonus.
- This offer may not apply if your card has changed to a different type of card within the last 12 weeks or changes before the extra points are applied.

Our Verdict
Basically means you can earn 2% on all purchases and 3% on grocery/gas on up to $5,000 in purchases. Should be useful for those who MS in those categories.

Compass has another offer, presumably to checking account holders. Open a savings account, deposit $100 and get $10. It can also be credit-card funded up to $500, but only during the application – not after. So clear it with the c/c company first. I didn’t, alas, and they flagged it for fraud – briefly, but enough to screw up the funding. Sigh.

You can get 3% normally with the BBVA CP. This makes it 4%
Drug stores are another big area for this card. I usually flip between drug stores and grocery depending on other cards
