The Offer
No direct link, targeted offer
- Cathay Pacific is offering some members a bonus of up to 65,000 miles on the co-branded Synchrony credit card. Bonus broken down as follows:
- 40,000 miles after $2,000 in spend within the first 90 days
- Additional 25,000 miles after $3,000 extra spend within the first six months
Card Details
- Annual fee of $95 is not waived the first year
- Card earns at the following rates:
- 2x Asia miles per $1 spent on eligible Cathay Pacific travel and in-flight purchases
- 1.5x Asia miles per $1 spent on dining in the US or aboard
- 1.5x Asia miles per $1 spent on purchases outside of the US
- 1x Asia miles on all other purchases
- No foreign transaction fees
- Complimentary first year green tier membership in the Marco Polo Club (Cathay Pacific’s loyalty program. Green tier is their base level and as I understand it first year is always free. Second year onwards you need to pay $100 USD or earn 100 Club points).
- Not available to applicants who have or have had the Cathay Pacific Visa card. Not sure if this is enforced?
Our Verdict
Spend break down is slightly different to the previous 65,000 targeted offer, but you still need to spend $5,000 total to get the full bonus. This is definitely better than the 60,000 mile deal as it’s more miles and less spend. When comparing it to the 50,000 mile deal it’s an extra 10,000 miles but requires an extra $2,500 in spend. That works out to be 4x per $1 spent (plus what you’d normally earn), I think most people would prefer the extra miles in that case.

Hat tip to reader @_moarbetter
I got this offer in the mail. I had applied once before on one of the better public offers and got turned down as they couldn’t verify my identity. Got approved this time with a lame CL though enough for my purposes. I get a lot of use out of Asia Miles. There was no place to enter my existing Asia Miles account (also note I don’t think these offers are transferable because address and DoB were hard coded in the application (I couldn’t change them). Hopefully I don’t have issues with linking my AM account (Synchrony seems to have a fairly bad reputation customer service-wise).
This bank should be dissolved for fraud.
what’s the best way to use these points? just got the bonus but their reward booking online is a nightmare to use
Applied for this a few days ago and got double TU HPs on consecutive days… Was told that this is a TU bug and they’re working on fixing it. Off to a great start already!
Interestingly, one pull is from Synchrony, and the other from “SYNCB/CATHAY PACIFIC”
I want to book cathay using asiamiles from lax to sgn but on the asiamiles.com i can only searh flights from lax to hkg. How can i book my flight or I need to call asiamiles and they can help me book it?
P/S: I have a nightmare with Synchrony so I think if you have other choice, don’t go with them.
Cathay points expire three years after they are credited.
Plus there is absolutely NO WAY to extend it.
After June 22 restructure of the program, even the Marco Polo members dont have much privilege to book awards.
They have now 3 tiers of awards.
Don’t forget that CapOne is also a transfer partner now for Asia Miles (CX FF program). Also interesting while on the topic of CapOne is that their Venture (and Perhaps Spark?) are now effectively 1.5 miles in foreign countries with no FTF some folks had some interest in this card because of that if they did a lot of spend in non-US locations but now the Venture card is a better deal.
this has to be the weirdest and frustrating bank among CC issuers. when canceling an AF bill, the bank continues to bill you for the next 3 statements of the fee plus interest even when calling in and assured the account is closed.
My understanding based on the conversation I had with the rep who closed my SO’s account is that whomever closes your account has to submit a separate request to get the annual fee reversed. It’s not an automatic process. I specifically asked to get the annual fee reversed and both fees were reversed ~2 weeks after account closure.
not my experience at all. Closed, refunded, done.
What has kept me away from Asia Miles is the lack of availability online and no transparency on the surcharges for their partners.
