[Expired] [Targeted] Chase: Enroll In Paperless Statements, Get $5 Bonus

Deal has expired, view more Chase deals by clicking here.

Looks like another round has been sent out. Fingers crossed that Chase doesn’t report this as a $500 bonus on 1099 forms again. Hat tip to reader Alec

The Offer

Sent out via e-mail. Subject line is ‘<name>, please review: We’ll thank you with a $5 statement credit when you switch to paperless’

  • Chase is offering some cardholders a $5 statement credit when you go paperless by 3/2/2019

The Fine Print

  • Valid until 3/2/2019

Our Verdict

Sometimes I think these types of offers are self defeating, if people know you might send such an offer out then they will select to receive paper statements even when they would normally go paperless. I think a better option would be to offer something like $5 when signing up for a new card to go paperless instead (similar to the $25 bonus Chase offers on a lot of cards for authorized users).

Hat tip to readers Josh & Matt

DONT do it.
support the employees the make the envelops, the employees that put your statement in the envelop, the post office workers that deliver the mail.

Should we stop sending emails so the post office can hire more workers to deliver snail mail?

Should we stop writing internet comments and mail post cards to doc with our comments?

It is interesting that I received this offer twice. The first one is on CSR and now on IHG. Point is, before receiving these offers, all my cards already enrolled in paperless.

Why is this targeted? Offer it to everyone. Say you will charge $100 if you rescind within next 3 years.

Got a $5 offer for Hyatt Card. The funny thing is I was already moved to paperless 2 months ago. Looks like they pull out the data with huge delay

Nothing wrong with online statements. As long as you have already provided all of your login information to your wife, husband, partner, cat or whoever will manage your finances if something happens to you. Otherwise, your nest egg might roost for a L-O-N-G time if nothing’s ever received in your post office mail to alert others the account even exists.

I print out my year end summary from Chase and highlight the charges for taxes. The YTD is easier to read as well.

I received this on my IHG for $10 but I don’t remember signing up for it. Maybe I did and it’s just now kicking in as a “next billing statement” credit. It was credited on 2/15/19.

Read the first line of the original post. This was a joking reference to the erroneous 1099-MISC many people recently received.
