Our Verdict

This has been available as a public offer in the past. The nice thing about this offer is that there is not any sort of restriction on when/where the free night certificates can be used and you can also top up the certificates with points if they cost more than 50,000 points per night (up to 15,000 points per night). This is a fantastic offer and the best variation we see (normally when it’s flat points it’s only 100,000 points). As this is a public offer we will add it to the best credit card bonuses.

I applied for the amex business card with the same offer after I was approved for this card. Is that going to mess up the bonus on this one?

“Each award is valued up to 50,000 points.”

Well that gets you a night at the Fairfield just off the interstate, or maybe at the El Paso Fairfield Inn, unless it’s a weekend…

We used my certs from the offer last year for 5 nights in the Marriott Suites Clearwater beach, 5 certs and 10K points for Tuesday – Sunday in early April 2024. My wife just got the 5 night offer this week and we plan on 5 nights Wed – Monday Memorial Day week 2025 oceanfront in Myrtle Beach.

For people who received this deal before, was it worth it? Were you able to use them at your desired destinations instead of having to take forced vacations just to use the certificates? Marriott point requirements are higher than in the past in addition to many properties charging resort or destination fees. Wondering if five 50k certificates with a year expiration date is worthwhile.

Used 3 nights for a lousy hotel I needed to stay at for a wedding. Place was a dump. Glad I didn’t have to pay $200/night, BUT was not happy to be there… also I need to point out that ***Chase issued a 1099 for some made-up value of the free nights.***

So I have to pay income taxes on some $400 in “value”. If you’re under $600 in total “value” from Chase, you’ll escape the 1099, but I also got a referral on SW cards at $0.01/point for $200, which put me over the top! I wish they were just points and not taxed. Net of the taxes, yes, there was value, but this wasn’t a lay-around-at-a-resort-on-the-beach experience I had in mind.

I thought the 1099s were a mistake that was corrected? Wife and I each did this so we will have ten of these to use.

@frito Not helpful though when they didn’t send them out until 3/18/24, when my taxes were already done. It’d cost more to have my CPA rerun my taxes vs just leave the tax hit.

Oh I agree that sucks, but I mean future users are ‘t likely to get 1099ed if chase decided this was a mistake

If you plan a stay at Marriott within a year, I say it’s worth it. If not, stay away.

I pulled the trigger when it was 3 nights last year (had a 40k referral from P2 so it still seemed worth it) but had a hell of a time using up the nights for anything remotely aspirational. YMMV

DP: Am sitting at 6/24, last Chase card was opened late 2021 and most of my spending is with Citi. Was feeling risky, applied, and got an under review screen. Three days later got an approval email.
