[Targeted] Citi Sears Card Spending Bonus – Earn 10x/10% On All Gas/Grocery/Restaurants

The Offer

No direct link to offer

  • Citi has sent out some lucrative spending offers to Citi Sears cardholders. Here are some of the offers seen:
    • Earn 10x bonus ThankYou Points (up to a total of 25,000 points per month) on eligible purchases (gas stations, grocery stores & restaurants). Must spent at least $2,000 per month, maximum earning of 25,000 points per month.
    • Earn 10x bonus ThankYou Points (up to a total of 10,000 points per month) on eligible purchases (gas stations, grocery stores & restaurants). Must spent at least $300 per month, maximum earning of 10,000 points per month.

The Fine Print

  • Valid from 01/01/2019 until 3/31/2019
  • Must activate promotion by end of the promotion period

Our Verdict

This card is great because of these types of targeted spending offers, this is the reason we have it ranked #1 on our list of store credit cards. If you don’t have the card currently you can sign up, but the only version available is one that earns SYWR. You can then product change that version to one that earns Citi TYP or cash back (TYP is best as it gets the most offers from what I’ve seen). If you don’t regularly get offers on this card then try putting some spend on it, that seems to trigger offers and usually after receiving your first offer you’ll want to put a lot of spend on the card and that will keep triggering new offers every month/quarter.

Probably not news to everyone here, but I just realized that the TYP earned by this card has expiration date while the TYP earned by my citi premier shows no expiration date. I think the expiration is 3 year or something like that so not a huge deal, just need to keep in mind to use them!

DP: After 5 phone calls, I was able to change to TY points from SYW for two family cards. As of 1/22/19 don’t waste time with secure msg, rep going to send you to phone calls.

1. Call the number on the back of your card
2. Listen for the option of Rewards
3. Connect to rep say something like this, in the terms they can understand, so that they don’t transfer you to another place; don’t say “product change”, your card is going to remain the same, only the reward program changes
4. “I want to unenroll from the Show Your Way reward program and enroll into the Thankyou points reward program”
5. Wait for the confirmation
6. Hope for the targeted offer in the future

Did they send you a confirmation of the change in writing or just confirmed it during your phone call with them?

How can we become (more likely to be) targeted? I read the comments saying one should put on some spending on it first. What are the ballparks of spending/month that people put on it usually? I just got the card last quarter but didn’t receive this offer

Happy New Year to all of you! Does anyone know if the TYP version of the Sears card allows transfer to Citi’s partners or do you need a more premium card such as the premier to be able to transfer? Thank you in advance.

I have this Sears card. When I sign into the ThankYou website, under transfers it lists SYWP as the only transfer option. I don’t know if you can transfer them to a more premium card like Prestige or Premier and then they convert to transferable points?? It would be nice if the ThankYou points would pool together like AMEX MR.

+1 on this question. Are these normal TYP’s that can be transferred to travel partners?

Yes. I got the terms and conditions in letter saying it can be transferred to partners.

@ rogbre: you can call thanyou department to combine your two cards’ account to one, the points will be combined together.

Got the offer for 10% cash back. Anyone know if Kroger would get counted as grocery store purchase?

I received one offer, spending at $2,000 per month. Should I need spend all of $2,000 on grocery or gas or restaurants? I am wondering if I can spend $1,000 on grocery or gas or restaurants, but another $1,000 on others, will I get 2,000 Thankyou points, or 11,000 Thankyou points (only the first $1,000 will get 10X)?

I have gotten this type of offer 5 out of the last 6 quarters. Thank you Citi and Sears! Who knew when I applied 6 years ago for a $15 credit it would turn into the most lucrative card I own lol

when you product change to Citi TYP, the card becomes Citi Thank You card. Then you won’t get offers like this anymore because this is specifically for Citi Sears card. The Citi Thank You card has different special offers, but never with gas or grocery. this quarter it’s clothing, electronics, department stores.

I changed from shop your way to thank you points a few months ago. I had to call and they resisted until I complained that all the sears and kmarts near me are closing, then he got a supervisor to make the change. I just called the number on the back of the card.

I tried doing the same thing today but didn’t work. So basically, we need to call the number at the back of the card and ask if we can change the card from SYWP to TYP?

I thought the offers would stop, but I got the 10x on Gas/Grocery/Restaurants on monthly spend up to 1k and a second offer of 5k points for $500 spend anywhere.
