[Targeted] Citi Spending Bonuses: Up To $25/2,500 Miles/Points Back Through November 30th, 2019

Citi has started sending out targeted spending bonuses through November 30th, 2019. Offers must be activated and they have been sent out snail mail (not sure if e-mail offers have also gone out). It looks like offers haven’t gone out on most cards yet, but here are some of the offers we’ve seen.

Citi ThankYou Preferred

  • Use your card to earn 10 ThankYou Points per $1 spent, up to 2,500 points, through 11/30/2019 on eligible purchases you make at: shopping, gas, groceries travel and more. Hat tip to @AndrwYng

Our Verdict

Best deals are the ones available on grocery, gas and drugstores. Unfortunately the low spending cap means it’s not as useful as it would otherwise be.

I got a 1.99% finance offer instead. I use the card lightly though constantly, maybe $100 a month

Mine is for Home Improvement, Home Furnishing, Computer & Electronics Stores, Dept Stores.
Terms state “Earnings associated with this program will equal 4 bonus TYP per $1 spent…max 2,500 additional points”. So: spend $625 to get the max 2,500 points.
And “may overlap with other special offers” means this stacks with my retention offer spend requirement.

Good catch.

“Earn 10X up to 2500” means you earn 10X on $500. But the terms indeed state 9X additional and 2500 max BONUS. That would make it 9X additional, 10X total, on $278.

…or in your case (and mine)…

“Earn 5X up to 2500” means you earn 5X on $500. But the terms indeed state 4X additional and 2500 max BONUS. That would make it 4X additional, 5X total, on $625.

I’m afraid they’ll cap it at 2500 points total, though, and that it’ll take a call to US-based customer service to have them honor the “actual” terms. Not worth the extra 500 (4X on $125) points to me, and rather than risk not getting a category bonus on that in the first place, I’m stopping at $500 and putting any additional spend where I normally would.

That’s a better deal than my offer. Mine says earn 5 thank you points at grocery stores, gas stations, drug stores, mass transit & commuter transportation vendors

That’s my offer too.
I received the offer in the mail, and then the same offer by email two days later.
I guess it will be useful for gas after Chase’s 5% rewards ends at the end of this month.
