[Targeted] Discover: Add An Authorized User & Get $25 When You Spend $3,000+

Update 7/29/19: Deal is back and valid until October 31st, 2019.

The Offer

Targeted offer sent out via e-mail, subject line is ‘Limited-time offer: $25 cash back’

  • Discover is offering some cardholders a bonus of $25 when you add an authorized user and spend $3,000 in combined purchases by September 30th, 2019.

The Fine Print

  • Valid until September 30th, 2019

Our Verdict

Not really worth it due to the high minimum spend requirement. I guess if you’re in the first year of Discover it Miles and are getting 3% on all purchases it’s worth considering but otherwise not.

Is there a recommended ‘offers and promotions’ communications checkbox to activate to increase the odds of receiving these deals?

Not sure about all the hate. I spend twice that a month on my Discover and adding an extra user took three minutes. Took me longer to write this comment than it did to make $25.

If you are in your first year… 2.83% for the discover it, or 3.83% with miles makes it interesting… but I am glad they are testing this.
I wonder if they require full name/SSN for AU.

Now that it is valid until Oct. 31, it actually could be a worthwhile deal- because you can time the quarterly 5% spend to be $1,500 from now until 9/30, and another $1,500 in October. So for anyone able to meet the max $1,500 quarterly spend, you can get this free $25 without having to spend anything extra.

I got this – if I’m going to spend $1500 anyway maxing out Paypal for the 5% then it’s really an additional $1500 – $25+$15 back on the $1500 is 2.66% – might be worth it for otherwise non-bonus spend, no?

Got the offer. I am currently working on a more practical and tangible spend bonus

Sounds like this is something to test waters and not a serious offer.
