Our Verdict

If you received the Platinum status offer you can extend your status through 2020 by earning 12,500 Elite Qualifying Miles (EQMs) and $1,500 Elite Qualifying Dollars (EQDs). You can also elevate it to Platinum Pro by earning 20,000 Elite Qualifying Miles (EQMs) and $2,400 Elite Qualifying Dollars (EQDs) by March 31st, 2019. For gold it requires 7,000 EQM and $850 EQD.

I received Platinum Pro match offer. I was EXP in 2016, down to gold in 2017. Had only 2 flights with AA this year. Match good until Jan 6 2019. Can be extended to 2020 if I do 2.5k PQD and 20k PQM with AA BA IB JL AY by the same date. No 500 mile stickers, presumably because Platinum Pro gets free domestic upgrade. Still dont plan to get the extension unless I can score some incredible international J fare.

Wow lucky you. I got nothing. I was EXP for 2013, 2014, 2015, then Platinum for 2016, Gold for 2017 and this year Platinum again.

Sometimes you can find Premium Economy tickets to Spain on AA metal or IB metal for $700 and if you book thru Iberia or British aiways AA will give you like $2300 EQD and about 15,000 EQM

Yep, I am keeping my eyes open on this kind of fare. Did not know a $700 premium Y can get that many though. I was expecting some sub $2000 j fare. Thanks for the tipz

I’ve never had AA status and got Platinum Pro. Huge for me, lots of flights coming up

What’s your status with Marriott? I’ve also never had AA status and haven’t flown a single mile with them since 2016, yet I got Platinum. I’m curious how they are targeting people. I do have Platinum Elite with Marriott and wonder if that might be the key.

Damn, got gold status during the one 3 month stretch I have no anticipated AA flights. If I book for others, do they receive status?

Anyone know if the 500-mile upgrade credits expire? I’m new to AA okay. Thanks.

Mine from a free 2015 status are still in there.

Awesome thanks. So if I have a flight from NYC to San Francisco let’s say 3000 miles, then I could use six of the 20 500-mile upgrade passes they gave me to upgrade from economy to business?

In theory yes, but even EXPs regularly do not clear on these routes outside of off-off peak days/times.

If I make a reservation during The trial gold period for travel after, Will I still get the perks of having gold?

I had Plat Pro offer last year. During that time, I booked flight and was able to choose Main Cabin Extra seats for entire family. When my status expired, I was able to keep those seats for no addl charge.

JL
JL

yes and no. yes when you are booking and picking seats, but no when you are flying (no priority boarding or free check-in bag).

I got an offer for platinum and have literally never flown an AA revenue flight. I guess I’ll take it but because AA only flies to my airport seasonally I dont think I’ll be able to use it.

I need to make a booking change within 21 days of departure but I’m not targeted so I guess I’ll absorb the fee.

Any status matches this could be used for? Alaska? Delta?

It seems like some people have had success with Hawaiian by simply sending a screen shot of their eCard. Only problem I see is the expiration date would be mid-year, so it would be obvious that it was promotional…

Was this a SW 90 day challenge, or an AA 90 day challenge?
