Our Verdict

If you received the Platinum status offer you can extend your status through 2020 by earning 12,500 Elite Qualifying Miles (EQMs) and $1,500 Elite Qualifying Dollars (EQDs). You can also elevate it to Platinum Pro by earning 20,000 Elite Qualifying Miles (EQMs) and $2,400 Elite Qualifying Dollars (EQDs) by March 31st, 2019. For gold it requires 7,000 EQM and $850 EQD.

William Charles there is another round of platinum status challenges from AA. I received offer today.

“You’ve been exclusively selected to receive complimentary American Airlines AAdvantage® Platinum status through June 5, 2020. Plus, we’ll give you twenty 500-mile upgrades just for registering — no strings attached”

“ Want to keep Platinum status or earn Platinum Pro status through January 2021?
Earn the following Elite Qualifying Miles (EQMs) and Elite Qualifying Dollars (EQDs) between the date you register and June 5, 2020.”

Deal is back. Register by Mar 25, 2020 and get Gold thru June 5. Was targeted for the previous round as well but did not register as I had no upcoming trips on OneWorld. Targeted for Gold both times.

They gave my Gold status for free just after I got back from European travel. And then I earned a Main Cabin Extra pass which coincidentally expires this month. So basically wasted status. But I haven’t paid for a flight since 2017, just miles redemptions so…

millionairenextdoor, even if it’s “wasted” would you still register? Just curious if there’s any benefit to not registering. For instance, maybe they target you again in a later quarter this year when you may have travel plans that could be arranged with AA.

I was offered Platinum and I fly AA at least twice a month. My wife hardly ever flies and was offered Platinum Pro.

To the person asking about Marriott status I’m Titanium and the wife is Platinum.

First time ever getting targeted and for Platinum. Sadly I just took a big international trip in November and too poor to take a trip and extend by April. Been trying so hard to make status, well here’s to hoping.

I received Platinum Pro, but no mention of any 500-mile upgrades.

Does anyone know if this offer is once in a lifetime or every year? Meaning if I take it now does it exclude me from getting the offer again in the future? Likewise if I don’t take it, will my chances be higher to be offered again?

This is a great question. Hopefully someone with knowledge can provide data points to us all. I know with status matches on United, they limit to once every 5 years, which is… lame, but understandable, I guess, since you know: people work hard to earn status, and handing ’em out for free would water-down benefits for everyone.

Didn’t get any email but with the link it looks like I have the gold offer. I don’t currently carry any aa cards (had citi aa and Barclay aviator in previous years). I fly AA maybe once a year.

Would something like this actually increase your business with the airline? I wonder how profitable these marketing tactics really are for the airlines.
