  • Bookings for The Venetian® and The Palazzo® hotels are excluded from discounts.
  • This offer is subject to the general IHG® Rewards Club membership Terms and Conditions.

Our Verdict

Best discount is 25%, although we rarely see that so this 20% deal is good if you need the points in the short to medium term. You can use this promotion to buy points at a discounted rate.  When you make booking it’s made clear that you’re actually purchasing the points and if you cancel your reservation they will redeposit the full points value rather than points + cash. It will usually be something along the lines of:

  • Save 5,000 points & pay $40 ($32 with this discount)
  • Save 10,000 points & pay $70 ($56 with this discount)
  • Save 15,000 points & pay $99 ($79.2 with this discount)
  • Save 20,000 points & pay $125 ($100 with this discount)

The rates will vary a bit from hotel to hotel, the best option is when you save 20,000 points for $115 ($92 with this discount) this makes the points cost 0.46¢ each. The 20% discount on purchasing points that the Premier/Travel cards give when purchasing points does not stack with this method.

Best I can find is 20000 points for $115 after the discount.

Title says .384 but text says .46 so I’m confused.

title is wrong. The .384 rate was a mistake rate from a couple sales back, which IHG quickly corrected. The .46 rate used to be the best rate, until IHG raised their P&C rates a few months ago. The current best rate is actually around .575 ($115 for 20,000 as someone posted above). The buy points option is better now when IHG runs the BOGO sales on those, .50 each (annual limit on point purchases is 100K though, so 200K when they are BOGO, while there is no annual limit on P&C).

Will 40x points per dollar for 1st 12 months using Premier card stack? That might be nice.

no I just got 1x plus 3x additional points for ‘any other purchases’ on mine

No, because you are actually buying the points from points.com. Go through a shopping portal though to get ~2.5% cash back.

Too late to edit my last post. I had buying points on my mind, cause I don’t bother with P&C anymore at .575 versus .50 to buy at BOGO. On P&C, you do get whatever your cc gives for IHG stays, so if you have 40X on your card, you get 20,000 + (40 * 115) = 24,600 points for $115, or .4675 cpp (almost back to the old best rate of .46).
