Our Verdict

This is the highest bonus we’ve seen on this card, there is currently a 50,000 point public offer. Deal is worth doing if you’re targeted Navy Federal is only available for military and veterans – full eligibility information can be found here (plus family members. Even if they are deceased). Keep in mind that joining NFCU is a hard pull, it’s possible you’ll land up with two hard pulls if you join and signup for the card, but hopefully those will be combined. Learn more about Navy Federal credit cards in the post Navy Federal Credit Union (NFCU) Credit Cards: List, Best Cards & Things You Must Know.

I just became a member of Navy (two days ago). Any idea how I could increase my chances of getting this promotion? My FICO scores are in the 800s.

Just for clarity, I am not asking about how to improve my chances for being approved for the card. I mean how to increase the likelihood of being targeted for the promotion itself. Would talking to a branch manager help, for example?

I’m guessing offer targeting gets handled automatically by some program in the CU’s main office. You might be more likely to get it if you apply for one of their non-targeted CC offers, and use that card for a bit. There’s a lot of people on the myfico forums (often with scores much lower than yours) who have received multiple cards from Navy FCU.

Thanks Ann. Yes, I am a regular over there at the myFICO forums. Glad to hear your thoughts.

William Charles Title might need a tweak – Targeted Public Bonus Offer?

Really like this card, got mine last year at 40k and P2’s at 50k. 60k is even sweeter!

I’ve actually been using this for everyday spend at 2x as I’ve been getting more and more frustrated with the lack of reeemption options in the Chase UR portal.

Logged in and found an invitation to apply for More Reards AMEX for 30000 points, which is the same as the public offer.

Maybe I’m doing something wrong, but I had difficulty getting my reward money out of my account. First I transferred the points bonus to my checking/savings? account. Then I tried to push it out, but there was no option, so I set up a pull with my hub bank.

NFCU sent me a threatening letter that you aren’t allowed to do ACH transfers… you should instead give the other bank the checking account information. That made no sense since the only way the other bank would pull the money is if I set up a test deposit. The threatening letter was over the 14 cents they test transferred out and they were making a one time exception. I wonder how they’ll feel when they find out I transferred the other $500+ out.

That’s extremely odd. I have set up the capability to do ACH transfers from NFCU to/from PenFed, from NFCU to/from UNFCU, and from NFCU to/from Vanguard Brokerage. I’ve never heard a word of complaint from NFCU. In all cases the transfers are to/from my NFCU checking account, not my savings account. Did you try to transfer from savings instead of checking?

I received a similar letter from NFCU about a week ago after doing an ACH transfer out of Navy Federal to Discover (initiated at Discover).

ACH out of savings or checking?

For me it was ACH out of NFCU savings and into Discover savings. Note: My only accounts at NFCU are a savings account and a credit card.

They don’t actually allow ACH withdraw from savings from an external source FYI. I have made the mistake myself. They sent me a letter telling me they allowed it this 1x but don’t do it again.

financial institution, please note that your
Navy Federal savings account may only receive
ACH credits.” Page 9 bottom right of NFCU important disclosures document.

Page 9, bottom right. You need to visit a branch or use a savings check to withdrawal that money technically. Or you could open a checking acct. I have made the same mistake with them.

They offered me this when I went in to the branch last week for the 50,000 point offer, but it sounded like the 45 AF was NOT waived, according to the banker. I still went for it because it’s still $55 in value better than the other offer, but someone might want to ask about the annual fee if they are targeted, too, and report back.

Just checked the offer, AF is waived per the email.

Also, NFCU did not hard pull me when I joined September.

El Guapo Funny thing is when I took the offer late last year the annual fee actually showed up and posted. But then they automatically issued a credit for the charge. Watch to make sure the credit shows up.

I asked for a match to the new public offer for their Amex (25k to 30k) and they refused. I strongly doubt they’ll match a targeted offer.
