praying to the plastiqgods that I get targeted…so far nothing

what can I do increase the chances I’m targeted? Should I sign-up with Plastiq or a sister company?

What I imagine their algorithm is: Give the same people the promo every month whether they use the service or not. Give other people nothing, ever.

Steve
Steve

I use Plastiq at least once a month and never get these offers. I must have accidentally unsubscribed.

Lukas
Lukas

I got this yesterday. If you didn’t get it by now, you aren’t targeted.

joE
joE

what does Plastiq code as?

Steve

It basically codes as what the underlying thing you’re paying is, e.g., if you pay your electric bill through Plastiq, it’ll probably code as a utility. But you’ll probably need to experiment and see what happens in your specific case; also, I’ve seen the coding change for the same recipient, so don’t assume that a data point from months ago is still accurate.

As I posted in the plastiq main review thread bofa cash rewards did post as online shopping category this month whe I paid mortgage through plastiq using the card, but highly ymmv as it has never categorized this way in the past.

I’ve never been targeted by any Plastiq promos ;c

Nick

I was targeted. Have not used my account for at least two years before this. Seems like they kept sweetening the offer. Got prior offers for 2% and 1.5% that I ignored. Have some amex spend requirements to meet (and some tax bills to pay, which seems like the only thing amex can be used for), so the timing is good.

Steve

Amex can be used for utilities too.

My account is not targeted but my friend’s account is targeted. He doesn’t have anything to pay; is it okay to use my card, which has been used in my account in the past, in his account to take advantage of this offer?

that should not be any problem. i did so many times

Some times I use my wife’s account and paying with someone else credit card depending on the amount, Plastiq does a verification. They do send an email with an odd amount like $0.02 and ask you to check your credit card and reply the email with that amount, once you send it to them you are good to go. Hope this helps.

1+ year and never been targeted. Opened one for my wife too last mont, still not targetted there either!!!

Steve

Have you been using Plastiq every month?

CaptainOblivious

Is that actually the solution? I thought it was the damn monkey paw. I’m starting to think the fortune teller sold me lies.

Carl
Carl

You may have unsubscribed from their marketing emails. P2 did this, used to receive offers, still does, just no notice.

Steve

Actually I don’t know if using Plastiq every month would increase or decrease the chances of being targeted. I was asking to get more info about his data point; and maybe doing the opposite would trigger an offer.

Anyone tried to use plastiq to pay IRS for the estimated tax? Do they mail the physical check to IRS? I am thinking to pay my estimated tax for 2019. Any security concern?

Willman5

They sent check for me at end of November and received notification that it was deposited by IRS yesterday

David
David

Wiilman5, How does the transaction look like on your credit card statement? Does it mention ‘estimated tax’ or does it mention ‘plastiq’ only?

Thanks.

HarryTheFirstHarry
HarryTheFirstHarry

Its baaaaaaaack and totally unannounced with no email. I got 1.5% on P2 account. Check your accounts as its unannounced. I was seeing this previously as well but it went away after a day…so who knows this appears to be some kind of a flash sale.

Rick Sanchez
Rick Sanchez

Confirmed again in January. It’s as if they email 1%, unannounced 1.5%, and 2.5% for all the other losers.

Yu

We got this offer on P2 account. P1 and P2 filed tax return jointly last year and P1 is the primary. Question is if we use P2’s Plastiq account to send payments to IRS(obviously it will be P2’s name and SSN that will show on the check), will that be a problem? Because I remember when I use Pay1040.com to pay tax, they normally only ask the information for the primary. I don’t want IRS gets confused.

Anyone did this ?

Thanks.

HarryTheFirstHarry
HarryTheFirstHarry

I have not paid IRS with Plastiq, but I cross pay all the time with P2s info on the check when sending from P1s Plastiq and vice versa.

Tim
Tim

The name on the check is what you tell Plastiq to put, has nothing to do with whose account it is.

Monica

Hmmm..i was targeted. Should I use Chase freedom unlimited or Barclays arrival plus?

FunBucks
FunBucks

I’ve got both cards and also targeted.

For Arrival+ while you may get 2 points per dollar, having to get $100+ in travel spend to use for actual 1 cent per point instead of 0.5 cents can be a pain. Whereas, the 1.5x UR with Freedom seems like less at first, but you also have CSR and use in travel spend at the higher rate, I’d personally prefer that (though the seemingly inflated Expedia rates sometimes ruin it too).

If you had Citi Double Cash, that’d be a straight forward 2% back (after paying it off, redeemable after $25+ worth). So if you max’d out the spend: $20K x 3 x .02 = $1200 back minus the 1% fee would be a cool $600 back via CitiDC.

Otherwise, working on any sign-up bonuses? Do one of those with a cool $500+ back. If you’re lol/24, try Citi Premier or AA cards, BofA Premium, Amex Platinum, Hilton, Delta, etc. but of course many AF.

Lastly, if you got em and seek status, how about MQD waiver on the DL Amex Plat ($25K) or Reserve ($30K for extra bonus miles)? Beware: get that done before Jan 29 when they change Miles Boost to Status Boost and you miss out on the RDM (still get MQMs though).

Insomnia much, FunBucks? I’ll second Ric, go with Chase.

Got another stupid 1 FFD for every $10 spend offer -_-

2 months in a row now

Carlos Danger
Carlos Danger

Sounds… WORTHLESS.

Javier
Javier

So, Youngestofallthebuck, if you did the max on this offer: 3 x $20K, you’d earn $6000 FFD, which is a savings of $150; meanwhile, to spend 2.5% on $60K is $1500… I think Plastiq hates you.

Is Plastiq payment earns 3% with BoA rewards card for Online transaction category?

Panucci’s Pizza
Panucci’s Pizza

That’d be sweet. Any confirmation on this? Isn’t that category cap’d at $2500 spendy, though? I remember when Chase Freedom signup bonus was 3% up to $20K spend, which was basically a $600 SUB.

carroller

No, plastiq does not count as “online shopping”

ayem
ayem

how long ago it was not?

HarryTheFirstHarry
HarryTheFirstHarry

ymmv. Initially it was not. But in recent times certain mortgage Payments have counted. I can confirm that one mortgage payment I made did count. I believe it depends on which specific entity you are paying not necessarily the type of entity.

Marco
Marco

That Freedom 3% offer was alright, but kind of lame compared to other SUBs. Can earn $600 many other ways playing this game than spending $20K.

Victor
Victor

Only if you get the 1% transaction fee with plastiq, othterwise it is not so useful

Victor
Victor

Yes, I just got the BOA cash rewards card (mastercard version), plastiq was counted as online shoping, so this is a good deal for the 0 apr card

thats cool 🙂

Very odd: No email, but when I entered my info the fee was 1.5% instead of 2.5%. P2 never gets these emails or promos.
