[Expired] [Targeted/YMMV] American Express Delta Offers With No Lifetime Language

Deal has expired, view more American Express offers by clicking here.

Update 10/17/18: Looks like a new round of people have been targeted. Offers are valid until November 7th, 2018. Should show on the Delta homepage if your logged in, or try the link below.

The Offers

Direct link to offer

  • American Express is offering the following sign up bonuses on Delta cards, importantly this offers have no ‘one bonus per lifetime language‘. Bonuses are as follows:
    • American Express Delta Gold 60,000 Mile Offer + $50 Statement Credit, annual fee waived
    • American Express Delta Platinum – 50,000 Miles + $100 Statement Credit + 10,000 MQM, $195 annual fee not waived
    • American Express Delta Reserve: 50,000 miles + 10,000 MQM, $450 annual fee not waived

The Fine Print

  • No one bonus per lifetime language

Our Verdict

You should be able to see the offers on both the personal and business versions of these cards.  It’s always worth checking to see if you’re targeted for these offers if you’ve already had these cards before. If not, these are no different than the standard offer publicly available and sometimes we see much better bonuses come along so I wouldn’t apply if you haven’t had these cards before If you have then now is a good chance to grab the bonuses as otherwise you wouldn’t be able to. As always read these things everybody should know about American Express if you have any questions.

DP: I cancelled my gold card earlier in the year and it is showing me as ineligible for all offers.

Just applied and approved for Gold Business………….tried Gold Personal and received the you will not get bonus message. I will make sure I get the 50 credit before I make any spend

Tried to enroll as a new member in Delta Skymiles.

First attempt I didn’t change the year from 2018 fast enough and it froze it saying they don’t enroll children, unable to change it.

Tried again incognito

“Oh no! We’re sorry, but we are unable to process your request. Please try again later”

Would checking “I am a business owner” help being targeted for the biz offers?.. I am 4/24 and want to stay there.

So far not impressed

how exactly is the lifetime language laid out? I got an email for 35k+sc, first part under “offer terms” is

“If we in our sole discretion determine that you have engaged in abuse, misuse, or gaming in connection with the welcome offer in any way or that you intend to do so (for example, if you applied for one or more cards to obtain a welcome offer (s) that we did not intend for you; if you cancel or downgrade your account within 12 months after acquiring it; or if you cancel or return purchases you made to meet the Threshold Amount), we may not credit the welcome offer to, we may freeze the welcome offer credited to, or we may take away the welcome offer from your account. We may also cancel this Card account and other Card accounts you may have with us.”

Is this “lifetime language”?

Robert

If you’re looking at an Amex signup offer, click on “Offer & Terms”. Then look for a phrase like this right beneath “Offer Terms”:

“Welcome offer not available to applicants who have or have had this Card. We may also consider the number of American Express Cards you have opened and closed as well as other factors in making a decision on your welcome offer eligibility.”

On this offer, if you’re targeted, you won’t find that language.

Hope this helps.

Does the ‘statement credit for Delta purchases’ apply to purchasing DL gift cards online? TIA.

DP: I opened the Delta Gold Card in June 2017 and cancelled in May 2018. I received a target e-mail for the 60,000 today Sep 25, 2018 and I applied. The application went to pending. I will update.

DP: Update I was approved about 20 minutes after applying! I will be amazed/thrilled if the points show up! I am done playing games with AMEX and will keep this card past the 1 year anniversary as I have recently been banned from getting Hilton cards with AMEX.

James B.

Did Amex say you are banned from being approved for Hilton cards in the future?

I have just been getting the message that says more or less “Based on your current history with American Express you are not eligible for this bonus. Do you wish to proceed?” I tried for the Aspire 150K card as well as the Hilton Business.

I am similarly “banned from Hilton”. Thanks for the DP on getting a different Amex card as I was assuming I was banned from all Amex cards for the time being.

I had made a similar assumption so I was surprised when the Delta Gold Card was approved. I will be pleasantly surprised if the 60k points show up after hitting the spend.

James B.

Unllike many card companies, usually Amex will give you a heads up if you do not qualify for the bonus before the app is processed.

James B.

Interesting DP. Amex applies lifetime ban bonus notes on selected card holders. Thanks for the DP. Good to know. Caveat emptor with Amex!

I recalled some people mentioned last time they didn’t get bonus after meeting the spending requirement even though there was no lifetime language in the email they received.

Platinum shows 50k for personal and biz for me but everything else lines up.

Robert from Milenomics

You’re right. I think Will got the cut and paste wrong on that one, perhaps assuming all the offers were aligned with current best.

Was targeted last month, August, with the same value of points at 60K for gold and biz but $2000 spend, this time around at $1000 spend. Both had $50 statement credit. Never had Delta cards before so not sure if it is worth it to pull the trigger…

Robert

The Gold card signup bonus has been as high as 75,000 recently. If you’ve never had the card before you’d also be eligible for referral bonuses (10,000 for the referrer). This targeted offer is mostly useful for its lack of “have or had” language. I’d wait unless you have an immediate need for Delta miles.

Thank you for the recommendation.

I had this card back in 2013. From your experience, how far back does the once in a lifetime policy apply? Some blogs say about 7 years. Do you agree?

Just to confirm, is this the message everyone else is seeing when not targeted? PLEASE VERIFY THE INFORMATION YOU ENTERED IS CORRECT AND TRY AGAIN.

If I use the gold card to pay for an award booking, will I only be credited the $11.20 for fees or will it trigger a full $50 credit?
