U.S. Bank Launches Quicken Co-branded Credit Card – 2x Points In Select Categories, No Sign Up Bonus = Worthless

U.S. Bank has partnered with Quicken to offer a new co-branded credit card called ‘Quicken® World Mastercard®‘. To apply for the card it looks like you need to be a Quicken customer. Let’s take a look at the card in more detail.

Card Basics

  • No sign up bonus
  • No annual fee
  • Card earns 2x points per $1 spent on the following purchases:
    • recurring bills, including utilities, telephone, cable, club memberships, and even your Quicken software subscription
    • grocery stores, and supermarkets
    • dining, including restaurants, bars, and fast food
  • Card earns 1x point per $1 spent on all other purchases

Our Verdict

The only way this card would be useful is if points were worth more than 1¢ a piece and I just don’t see that being the case here. Keep in mind some cards offer 2%+ cash back on ALL purchases not just specific categories. There are also cards that offer bonuses in the specific 2x earning categories this card offers:

Other cards offer massive sign up bonuses. I can’t see any reason why you would want to sign up for this card.

Hey Doc I just got an offer for quicken world master card from us bank with $100 statement credit after $500 spent within 90 days. It also gives you a full year subcription to the quicken software Deluxe, Premier or Home and Business. If you are already a subscriber you receive a 1 year extension. Everything else is the same as explained.

It also states Redeem 25,000 points for up to $375 in airfare, plus hotel, car rentals, merchandise, gift cards, cash back or even Quicken products.

Hope this helps.

I can confirm that this is accurate. I hit their spending threshold on 12/9, and they applied a $100 credit to my account on 12/12. If they come through with the promised Quicken subscription extension, that will amount to $580 in merch for $400 out-of-pocket. Seems like a pretty good deal to me.

Have you got your subscription of Quicken? I signed up 12/18/18 and still have not received mine.

So this makes the points worth 1.5 cents so effectively making it a 3% cash back card for the 2X categories. Maybe worthwile if you use quicken and get this offer. I think Chase INK for the 5% for telecom is better, but if you can’t get that then this could be an option.

That’s assuming that “up to $375 in airfare…” applies to cash back. The $375 may only apply to airfare or something else.

Don’t believe any of this. I signed up December 18, 2018, made the $500 purchase, paid the first invoice, and have been trying to get my free Quicken subscription every since. I just got off the phone with Robin a supervisor at US Bank who was rude. She said someone will call me in 10 days. I asked for her last name or email to prove I called and was given a confirmation number. This is about the 10 times I’ve been given a confirmation number. When you call back they say they don’t use confirmation numbers.

I just got a mailer for this card (have an old Quicken account I haven’t been using). $150 signup bonus + free year of Quicken, 15 mo. 0% APR on purchases and balance transfers, plus the same points structure as described in the post.

Their website is archaic. Connecting to the website and then to quicken is ridiculously complex. All alerts must be manually implemented and there is no alert for a secure message so it’s on you to check back to see if they have replied. This site must have been designed by amateurs.
