This has been available for awhile (since mid September), I don’t think we’ve ever had a dedicated post on it so thought it was worth mentioning. Uber offers something called Uber Cash, basically you can add funds to your Uber account in advance. You also receive a discount based on how much you add:
- Add $100 and get 5% off
- Add $50 and get 3% off
- Add $25 and get 2% off
These transactions still code as Uber, so will still earn the same category bonuses as normal. It’s worth mentioning that it’s frequently possible to purchase Uber gift cards at a bigger discount than 5%, so this isn’t that interesting unless you’re a hardcore Uber user or if you need your purchases to be direct from Uber to be rebated for work purposes.

For everyone who tried to load Uber cash and were bummed to see it didn’t trigger the Amex offer, thank you. I came here to make fun of Uber for not letting me add $25 to Uber cash with my MS Plat, a card that has been working fine, consistently earning Uber credits for months now and occasionally (accidentally) covering a charge here and there when I burn through all $75 plat credits and whatever gcs i’ve added for the month. After trading barbs over a dozen chat messages with the “help” team–where my specific complaints were systematically ignored in favor of useless copypasta “solutions” (“you’ll have to try another form of payment as some do not work with the service”)–i actually inadvertantly triggered this AO with a $29 ubereats order (my Ubercash had run out again.) Afterwards, after realizing what happened, I sent one last chat message to rub their noses in the fact that that form of payment worked fine and to say they owed me the 5% I should have received loading cash. Haven’t heard back yet but what a complete shit show. To find out it doesn’t even trigger the AO is just typical.

Can the amex platinum $15 per month uber credit be used to reload uber cash? That would be awesome, it would guarantee you could use that $15 every single month even if you don’t take an uber ride that month.

No. Uber cash is just a new name for uber credits. Uber cash reloads, gift card redemptions, as well as the Amex plat credit, everything is under this Uber cash so you can’t use it to reload itself.
Can just use amazon prime card for 5% and occasionally have $40 for $50
This is a better deal than full priced uber on Amazon because you’d be getting a 5% discount + credit card rewards vs just the 5% from Amazon. However, one can easily get Uber cards for 10% off which is the best deal
I believe Joe is saying that Amazon often sells $50 uber cards for $40, so combined with the Amazon 5%, Amazon is a better option (effectively 24% off) when the sale is available

I have the same Amex offer and was wondering if it’ll work. I believe the terms on the Amex offer excludes Gift cards so maybe this is considered a GC and it is enforced this time?
