Uber Discontinues Referral Program (Both User and Driver Programs)

Uber has discontinued their referral programs, both the program for riders to refer new riders and the program for drivers to refer new drivers. The UberEATS referral program is still active.

Sounds like existing referral code will still work through the month of July, but only for the new user bonus, not for the referrer bonus (that’s my read).

Surprising to see them disband their referral program which has always been the driving growth of the company. I suppose at this point everyone knows of Uber, so it’s less important to them, plus, the whole COVID-19 likely pushed them to make this move.

Yeah Uber has been chipping away at the fringe benefits for a little while. They got rid of that 1-2% discount for buying Uber gift cards a few months back and now this. I get the impression that the shareholders are probably pressuring them to become more profitable since they’ve been running at a loss for so long.

that and the whole business has completely dried up thing. They have high driver turnover, but with demand cratered as it has little need for new drivers
