Uber Eats is waiving delivery fees for independent restaurants across the United States & Canada. Keep in mind this doesn’t impact other fees Uber Eats charges such as:
I know its easy to throw rocks at Uber (deservedly) but I suspect plenty of Uber drivers who don’t have juicy airport runs will be willing to take the crummy Uber Eats orders that they might have passed over a month ago. I see snippets like drivers getting 1 ride in a 6 hour period….
I actually drive Uber eats. Airport runs suck. Only stupid people do them so that logic is flawed. I make more with Uber eats since tips are related to the surge price at the time but can be changed post delivery to a smaller or larger amount. The amount I make from the delivery fee is in direct correlation with the surge at the time the order is placed and that plus tip usually ends up being better than driving people.
Overall, deliveries so far have been down in the last couple days and I don’t expect it to get better as restaurants do the math and realize staying open for delivery only is to costly to maintain.

Honestly most delivery places in my area charge 99 cents.
If they wanted to actually support the restaurants and help consumers at the same time, they would waive the delivery fee and SERVICE fee.
Delivery fee: paid to driver
Service fee: paid to Uber
…. oh how convenient.

This is just plain marketing.
Nothing exciting to see here
Agreed. Delivery fee is often free or $.99 when I order but their other fees are exorbitant
Every little bit helps sometimes.
You guys ever happy about anything here?
Exact same thought when I saw the grubhub ‘letter from CEO’ ad the other day.
CEO’s email can be summarized as “local restaurant traffic down xx%, local restaurants are the bloodlines of our community, order on grubhub now!”
What’s about on business’ side? Do they reduce the commission on restaurants?
