United MileagePlus X (MPX) have added Walmart as an option, when you use the app you’ll receive 0.5x United miles per $1 spent (keep in mind you’ll also earn whatever your credit card normally earns as well). Keep in mind that the Chase Freedom is currently earning 5x this quarter at Walmart. MPX passes on the merchant category code, it doesn’t pass on the retailers name. Because Chase Freedom is specifically ‘Walmart’ and not the merchant category code Walmart falls under this means that using MPX will not earn 5x through the Chase Freedom.
