Our Verdict

This offer seems cheap, total bonus of only 500 miles and it’s only an extra 2.5x miles per dollar spent. Certainly worse than previous promotions in the past. I’m hesitant to post promotions like this as I feel like crappy promotions don’t deserve coverage, but at the same time I think that’s a decision readers are more than capable of making themselves.

As always, make sure you compare shopping portals to ensure you’re getting a good deal!

For what it is worth, I still appreciate knowing this stuff even if the bonus is not that great.

Unrelated, but a question: Barclay Wyndham Rewards just sent me an offer for 2x Wyndham Points on certain categories. Is this new, or have they always been doing this, similar to Chase Freedom, etc?

Body of Email:
1. Use your Wyndham Rewards® Visa® Card between 4/1/17 – 6/30/17 at:
Home Improvement Stores. Restaurants. Department Stores.
2. Earn 2X bonus points for every $1 spent, up to 2,500 points.¹
3. Remember, your 2X bonus points are in addition to the points you already earn for using your card!

Terms:

¹ This bonus offer is for select cardmembers and is not transferable. If you close your account or switch to another product during the promotional period, you will no longer be eligible for this promotion or any points that you may have accrued. Qualified cardmembers who activate by May 31, 2017, will earn 2 bonus points for every one dollar ($1) in new eligible purchase(s) in the qualifying purchase categories that are not later returned or rescinded with a transaction date that posts to their account between April 1, 2017 and June 30, 2017, up to a maximum of 2,500 bonus points. Eligible purchases are defined by merchant category codes. Each merchant designates a category code to assign to purchases in each of the qualifying categories above. Although most qualifying purchases will use merchant category codes selected for this offer, it is possible that some have designated a merchant category code that is not classified as such and therefore any purchases made will not qualify for the promotion. To be eligible for this offer and to receive the bonus points, the cardmember’s account must be open, active and in good standing. Purchases made during periods when the cardmember’s account is delinquent, their balance exceeds their credit line or their account is otherwise not in good standing do not qualify for this offer. The bonus points will appear on the cardmember’s statement 6-8 weeks after the end of the promotion.

It doesn’t seem like a very great offer… Maybe if it was in travel categories, but the categories don’t make much sense for me personally. I guess they’re hoping some folks will use the card for expanded purposes for deals like these…?

“I’m hesitant to post promotions like this as I feel like crappy promotions don’t deserve coverage”

Yeah I would agree, ~$7.50 on $200 spend is basically the minimum shopping portal cash back rate. It seems like the airline/hotel shopping and dining portals are getting more and more useless.
