[Expired] Vietnam Airlines Lotusmiles: Get 2,000 Miles For Joining (On The 20th Of Each Month)

The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Vietnam Airlines Lotusmiles program is offering 2,000 miles when you join the program, but you must sign up on the 20th of each month. Keep in mind this is based on Vietnam time (GMT+7)

The Fine Print

  • Valid every month through December 2019

Our Verdict

Keep in mind this is based on Vietnam time, so use a time converter to make sure it’s actually the 20th when you sign up. Vietnam Airlines has previously offered 1,000 miles for signing up. None of the flexible point programs transfer to Vietnam Airlines, so this will largely be useless for most people.

The password reset screen does not work, so you can’t sign up for this — this month.

I was having a similar problem when signing up. It was actually the set password screen when signing up that wasn’t working. But if you then go to reset the password while signing in, and open the link sent to your email, you can then set your password.

For reference, Vietnam Airlines is in Skyteam, so if you want to earn miles (to get to a flight redemption) by flying, Delta, Air France, KLM, Korean Air, etc. are the partners to fly on. Unlike Skymiles, this will be by some multiplier of distance flown, and basic economy earns no Lotusmiles. Along the same lines, redemption will be on one of these partners. Unfortunately, for flights it’s not the greatest deal. It’s 15k miles each way within North America, so after this sign-up bonus you’ll still need to earn 13k to redeem for a one-way.

Are there any redemption options beside travel? Gift cards, magazines subscriptions?

Two options if you plan on vacationing in Vietnam in the future, one if you don’t but still plan on going to the general region.

There’s the option to redeem for MobiFone (Vietnamese cellphone provider) prepaid credit starting at 5k miles for 200k VND. It’s an option if you’re going to Vietnam in the future; that’s your mobile data paid for. Alternatively, you can redeem for VinID points starting at 10k miles for 5k VinID (Vietnamese supermarket and dining loyalty program) points, so that’s some money you don’t have to spend on food while you’re there.

The last option is to redeem 45k miles for a year of Accor Plus. You get discounts on stays and dining at Accor hotels in Asia and Australia, and Accor Silver status. If you don’t plan on going to Asia, it’s not worth it for the Silver alone; you’d be better served buying Gold via the Ibis business card.

That’s it.

expiration: miles are valid for at least 2 years and up to 3 years. (https://www.vietnamairlines.com/us/en/lotusmile/earn-miles/earn-miles-with-vietnam-airlines)

Apr – Dec is 9 months. 18,000 miles can get you to domestic and the nearer parts of Asia

No, I think I was. It seemed awfully generous, but I missed the “new” members part.

As you can only register once, I figure the most you can get is a one time bonus of 2000 miles rather than receive it monthly on the 20th.
