The Offer
- Walmart Mastercard cardholders can receive 3% cash back on all in store Walmart purchases from April 15th until July 31st
The Fine Print
- Must use Walmart Pay
Our Verdict
Usually the Synchrony Walmart card only earns 3% on Walmart.com purchases and no in store. I don’t think this is a targeted offer, but it’s possible it is. Card really isn’t that exciting, even with these occasional offers.
There’s also another offer for the Walmart CC currently… use your card 5 times and receive a $15 statement credit. Offer is good through April 30th. Should stack with 3% offer. I have this card only use it for promos… mostly at Christmas time!! Hope this helps someone… Jesus walks with me!!
Walmart Pay now sports using Chase Pay as a payment source. If you’ve got a Chase Freedom, you can get 5% cash back at Walmart this quarter, without having to buy Walmart gift cards on their website using Chase Pay.
I don’t see the option too add Chase Pay to Walmart Pay in the Walmart App, I can only add credit/debit cards.
This is a great news for MS. If your WM carries variable VGCs, you can earn $9.32 per card.
$504.95 * 3% = $15.15 – 4.95 – .88 = $9.32
Where? Every Walmart I’ve been to doesn’t allow debit gift cards to be purchased with a credit card. It’s cash or PIN debit only.
Are the systems programmed to reject credit cards? At least two WMs in northern VA I normally shop at allow credit cards to pay for GCs.
Maybe you can use CCs to buy closed loop gift cards only?
Yeah you can buy Walmart giftcards with credit but not MasterCard, Visa in store but try it online I was able to buy $200 MasterCard Vanilla Gift Cards on Walmart.COM for $206.88 with free shipping for a manufactured spend on my Chase Sapphire
Have you been able to buy Visa gift cards thru Walmart pay? Don’t think it works, at least it didn’t work out for me. register spit out receipt must be purchased with cash, debit or credit.
Extra 1% on every $504.94?
When Sallie Mae rewards ended, I got a credit card that earns 3% at discount stores. Is there a NAF card that consistently earns more than this at discount stores, or at Walmart specifically?
Not that I know of
There are Walmarts coding as grocery, where you can use a grocery card, but most 3+% grocery cards specifically exclude Walmart.
One I know, BofA Cash Rewards gives you 3.5% with Platinum Honors.
BoA Cash Rewards gives 1% cash back on every purchase, 2% at grocery stores and wholesale clubs and 3% on gas for the first $2,500 in combined grocery/wholesale club/gas purchases each quarter
.. and Platinum Honors gives you 75% bonus on top of it. 2%*1.75 = 3.5%.
Walmart Neighborhood Market codes as a grocery store. Regular Walmart/Supercenter codes as a discount store.
Not for every channel. In amex it was coded as Grocery. But in Discover it was not.
From the Amex website defining what counts as a supermarket:
“Examples of merchants where you will NOT earn additional rewards include:
• Specialty stores (e.g., fish markets, cheese shops, wine shops, and other specialty food stores )
• Superstores (e.g. Amazon, Target and Wal-Mart)
• Warehouse clubs (e.g. BJ’s Club)”
Only Neighborhood Market Walmart codes with American Express cards as grocery and Bank of America cash rewards in my testing and Bank of America Cash rewards at Walmart Supercenter and it doesn’t code as grocery with Chase Freedom at Walmart Neighborhood Market or Supercenter
