The Offer

How To Get The Offer:

To receive this offer you need to do the following:

  • Withdraw money from a Wells Fargo ATM using a non Wells Fargo debit card (they charge $2.99 so make sure you use a card that refunds these fees)
  • A pop up should appear asking what you’d do with $100 dollars
  • Select gas & groceries
  • A coupon for the offer should print out

You can also try using this link: https://www.wellsfargo.com/jump/checking/100special-q2. But keep in mind the fine print states you must have received targeted communication to be eligible, so I wouldn’t risk it.

Offer Requirements:

  • Receive a $100 sign up bonus when you open a Wells Fargo checking account and complete the following requirements:
    •  Open a new, eligible consumer checking account with a minimum opening deposit of $50 (not including the bonus) in a store  by June 30th, 2016
    • Complete one of the following: 10 debit card purchases or payments or establish a qualifying direct deposit of $500 or more

  • We will deposit the bonus into your new checking account within 45 days after eligibility and qualifications have been met
  • All consumer checking accounts except Teen CheckingSM are eligible for the $100 bonus

  • A qualifying direct deposit is your salary, pension, Social Security, or other regular recurring monthly income of an accumulated $500 or more

Avoiding Fees

Monthly Fee

The Everyday Checking account comes with a $10 monthly fee. Get the fee waived with one of the following:

  • 10 debit card purchases and/or payments each statement cycle from this checking account, OR
  • Direct deposits totaling $500 or more each statement cycle, OR
  • Maintain a $1,500 minimum daily balance, OR
  • Link checking account to a Wells Fargo Campus ATM or Campus Debit Card

Early Account Termination Fee

There is no early account termination fee anymore.

Our Verdict

Wells Fargo has offered $100 in the past (and even offered $200 in the past) the main reason that people are interested in the Wells Fargo checking accounts is that they usually want you to have a deposit account relationship with them before approving you for one of their credit cards. They have three cards most people are interested in:

The downside to this bonus is that it’s kind of hard to actually enroll in the offer unless you have a Wells Fargo ATM near to you. Despite that we’ve added it to our list of the best bank bonuses as it’s relatively easy to meet the bonus requirements and also opens up the Wells Fargo credit cards to you.

Is this the reason why you wouldn’t risk the link

“How to get the offer:

Withdraw money from a WF ATM using a non- WF ATM…” Perhaps you mean “account” for one of these.

Agreed. It’s easy to make a typo, but could you fix this so it communicates what the reader needs to do? Based on your closing comment in the Verdict section, I am guessing that it needs to read something like:

Use a Wells Fargo ATM to withdraw money from a bank account not affiliated with Wells Fargo. (The ATM will charge $2.99 so make sure your bank refunds these fees.)

I think it was meant to say: Withdraw money from a WF ATM using a non- WF card.

Any data points on what ACH counts as direct deposit to keep their checking account fee-free. I’m thinking specifically Ally and Santander for me.

Amount?
Amount?

Does anyone know how much we need to withdraw from the Wells Fargo ATM or does it not matter?

I withdrew $20 and followed the instructions above. Worked like a charm. Thanks!

Just did this at an atm near San Francisco. Worked as described to get a receipt with offer. Only difference in offer is that mine must be opened in a wf store/branch (no online option mentioned) and offer expires 7/14/16

Per the WFC site, the account must be opened by June 3, 2016, not June 30.

Indeed, that’s what the link at https://www.wellsfargo.com/jump/checking/100special-q2#importantdetails shows – June 3.

And if you click to apply, it doesn’t work. This appears to be an expired offer. I may try to withdraw from WF to see if it still works, but would like to know if anyone else has been able to do it after June 3 first.

Received printout from ATM on Saturday after Selecting “Gas and Grocercies” when prompted. You’ll get the printout even if you select “No Receipt”. Opened my WF account at a local branch with the code. The branch issues an instant “temporary debit card”, which I’ll use to make my 10 debit card transactions (amazon GC).

received one from an ATM in Orange County area, SoCal on May 8th.

I followed the instructions this afternoon and receipted the unique coupon code on my receipt; HOWEVER, my offer states that I must “open a new eligible consumer checking account with a minimum opening deposit of $50 (not including the bonus) in a participating Wells Fargo store by July 14, 2016.”

The difference being that this post states “Open a new, eligible consumer checking account with a minimum opening deposit of $50 (not including the bonus) in a store or online by June 30th, 2016″…. but my printed receipt did not mention the ability to open the account online.

Additionally, when I read the fine print at the link you mentioned (https://www.wellsfargo.com/jump/checking/100special-q2), it says “Open a new, eligible consumer checking account with a minimum opening deposit of $50 (not including the bonus) in a participating Wells Fargo store by June 3, 2016.”.

So the question is, does anyone know if it is still possible to sign up using my unique promotional code online, or have they recently changed the terms of this offer so that it MUST be redeemed in branch only?

I’ve got the receipt coupon but, as stated in other comments, it says I have to open “in-store” by 07-14-2016.

Has anyone had luck opening over the phone or online and typing in or saying the code?

Thanks for the tip. As others have noted, my offer was for in-store only. I went into the branch which was attached to the ATM I used to generate the offer and opened the account today. I tried to use a BOA MLB cash credit card to deposit the $50 minimum balance, but it wouldn’t go through. The banker took it to the counter and had me sign an electronic disclosure on the signature pad that “my institution may charge a transaction fee for using this card for this transaction.” I was going to go through with it just to experiment with whether BOA would charge me cash advance fees, since I lowered the cash advance limit on this card to $10 or whatever the minimum allowed is. As I stated it wouldn’t go through, so I used a Chase debit card to post the $50 minimum opening balance. I was asked whether I would like a no-fee savings account and I declined – but guess what? When I logged into Wells Fargo online banking tonight, I have a checking account with a $50 balance and a savings account with a $0 balance. LOL.

Some silver lining to all of this – the banker informed me that there is a 60 day grace period on the monthly maintenance fee. So, theoretically, I could post 10 debit card transactions tonight on Amazon, wait for the $100 to hit in 45 days, withdraw $145.00 by writing a check out to another account (thanks banker for the free checks), and close the account. We’ll see – as was stated above, I may go ahead and schedule $500 direct deposits until I hit the $1,500 daily balance, keep the account open, and hold out for credit card offers with lower minimum spending requirements.

Followed the instructions and got the coupon. But I was too excited that I forgot to take my money!!

You made my day LOL

Mr. PTM

Thanks, William! Worked as directed with a few caveats. When I opened in branch with code, was told that I needed to open an associated savings account. The Way2Save savings account is kept fee-free by any one the following:

1) Maintain a minimum daily balance of $300.00; OR
2) Daily automatic transfer from a Wells Fargo checking account of $1.00 or more; OR
3) Save As You Go® transfer from a Wells Fargo checking account of $1.00 or more; OR
4) Monthly automatic transfer from a Wells Fargo checking account of $25.00 or more

I chose option #3 with minimum $1 auto-transfer. Minimum to fund was $75 ($50 checking, $25 savings). I used my Sapphire Preferred to fund full amount (single $75 transaction), but still waiting to see if transaction coded as purchase or CA.

Mr. PTM

Should also add that I was able to apply and approved ($13k CL) for Propel World card at the time of checking account opening.

Mr. PTM

$75 ran as CA on Sapphire Preferred. Perhaps funding with CC via web form, rather than teller, would have yielded different results.
