Currently American Express has three offers on their personal Platinum card:
- 60,000 points after $5,000 in spend
- 75,000 points after $5,000 in spend (incognito mode offer)
- 100,000 points after $5,000 in spend (targeted offer)
Some readers have asked whether they should sign up for one of the above offers (I’ll answer this later in the post). Interestingly reddit user sharpflatclip (who originally posted about the standard offer increasing to 60,000 so likely has reliable intel on American Express) says that it’s highly unlikely that a non-leaked 100,000 offer will be made publicly available anytime soon. In addition there will be one or more “incognito” mode offers higher than the 60,000 offer currently available in the coming weeks (we already have the 75,000 offer mentioned above, he mentions that slightly higher offers might also be available).
Now to answer that question from readers, my advice would be:
- Don’t apply for the 60,000 offer (as you can get at least 75,000 points from the incognito mode offer)
- Wait for a better incognito mode offer than 75,000 points
- Apply if you receive the 100,000 offer and value the Platinum benefits and are comfortable with the $550 annual fee
Hopefully this helps some readers.
