Is It Worth Sharing Your Referral Links On Doctor of Credit?

We give readers plenty of opportunities to share their referral links on this site, one of the reasons we do that is we don’t use affiliate/referral links for credit cards or bank accounts (for a variety of reasons) but usually the referral links will give the applicant the same bonus and the person doing the referring a bonus as well – so why not encourage that instead.

I always just assumed that there is a lot of people sharing these links, but few actually using them. Thankfully we’ve got a pretty great community of people on Doctor of Credit and it seems that I was wrong, people are actually using other people’s referral links. I have been receiving e-mails and comments stating as such, for example:

Increase The Chances That Somebody Uses Your Links

  • Provide helpful comments. Whenever we post referral threads, I always ask people to use links from people that they have noticed providing helpful comments & information on the site. The more helpful comments you provide, the more likely people will remember you and use their links.
  • Share deals with me. Whenever people send me deals/information to post I also always provide a hat tip to them to say thanks (and you should also support these readers by using their links).
  • Create a Gravatar. You’ll notice that some readers have an image next to their comments, this is called a gravatar and anybody can upload one and attach it to the e-mail they use to comment. This will make your comments “pop” more but more importantly people are more likely to remember your useful/helpful comments from above.
  • Use other people’s links. The more readers using links in general, the more likely your like will be used. If everybody just posts their links and nobody uses them, nobody wins! So if you’re going to apply for a card check for referral links (just make sure they are the highest bonus available before applying). And remember to use links from people that provide useful comments and share deals!

One of my goals for this site is to try and provide incentives for people to be helpful to each other, I absolutely hate negativity and I want this to be a place people enjoy coming to.

Share Your Successes/Failures

If you’ve shared your links on this site before, let me know if people have used your links or not. I hope they have and if they haven’t then hopefully some of the tips I’ve provide above will help you.

Update: Note, please put your referrals in the dedicated threads only (after following the instructions there). I’ve removed a few referrals from the comments of this post.

Not sure whether I ever told you, but at least 1 (possibly 2 – the other I think is from reddit) person used my 25k Amex Biz Plat referral I posted here. Thanks for all the great content, and for the opportunity for referrals!!

Yes. I’ve both used referral links and shared my own. Also folks who share certain referrals have a vast knowledge on an app or program and can be a valuable resource. [Edited]

I was pleased when I got my first ever BlueCash Preferred referral bonus… quite surprised, $100 goes a long way for someone like me who doesn’t exactly have the highest income. Really appreciative and I always do my best to sign up through another link on here if possible.

jenbcute

You got a $100 referral bonus for what? a credit card?

JenBcute

TEST! LOL

Hello, Gravatar! Are you gonna show yourself now? 🙂

JenBcute

AWESOME!!! Thanks Gravatar for showing yourself! 🙂

Yes, the BlueCash Preferred card is a credit card through American Express.

I’m glad you posted this, I always assumed very few actually used these links. I’ll probably take the time to share mine now. It also motivates me more to try to provide more answers/info for others. Thanks Doc

I completely agree. I used to post referral links on the site but the only time I can recall someone using mine was for Raise and I think that was only for $5 off a purchase. Now I am more motivated to post them. Maybe I’ll even find a new Gravitar to use like you did.

Meh, been posting on Reddit whenever they pop up, posted some here, sent a couple deals in, never gotten a single link on a card referral. Never expecting any though, so no real big deal.

You know, I don’t know why I never take advantage of this stuff. 2017 will be the year of referrals!

I’ve gotten on spg biz. People probably use earlier posts more though, so I guess you have to be quick

I have used some referral links posted from this site and reddit. some times these refferal lines have higher signup bonus than the bonus available on bank sites.

Between friends and /r/churning, I maxed out my CSP referrals last year, so that was cool. Thanks for sharing the love DOC!

I got at least 5 referrals for the Circle Pay app, which was great. Also have had 2 referrals to Paypal, which surprised me, but I’m not complaining!

Big thanks for allowing us to post them DoC!

I have posted my referral link here and reddit. I am sure some DoC users used my Hilton surpass link . If you are active user . someone will use your referral link .

Where is it appropriate to post referral links?

Chuck

There are dedicated threads for the purpose when an offer comes up. Here’s an example: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/new-amex-card-referral-thread/

Thanks for letting us share our links, but I think the way this is done is not the best. Usually you allow links only in one specific post per card and most of them are now very old. Since older posts show first, it doesn’t make much sense for someone to post his link anymore; who is going to use the 50th link instead of one of the first 10? It’d be much better if the links could be renewed every few months.

Chuck

Yeah, would be awesome if we could work out some randomizer method. Not sure how to do it.

I imagine sometimes people scroll down and then randomly pick one from lower down.

Could you add a link to a dedicated referral page to the Credit Cards header on the top of the site with a drop down? Maybe purge the referral pages once a month? Just a thought…I imagine that still has it’s problems and another thing to track for you guys.

I usually use the last one commented, thinking that others above probably had their chance in referrals.

In the Plastiq referral thread from several months ago this is how it was supposed to work but somehow everyone skipped my referral link.

Referrals here are super helpful. I’m pretty sure it was here I nabbed 15,000 Rapid Rewards (three 5,000 card referrals) in one statement. They are much appreciated – if anything, I think folks might like it if they were opened (just a little!) more often here.

I used to post referrals but had to stop once you began requiring re-tweets on Twitter. I do not use Twitter therefore I am disqualified from posting referrals.

Exactly this. No thank you to twitter. I don’t understand the obsession.

I think it was just a way to prevent referrals abuse. I can understand your concern though, I’m not particularly a fan of Twitter either.

ditto-no twitter for me

I agree. I don’t care for any of the social media, not just Twitter.

Hey DoC, Please reconsider your twitter requirement. There are lots of us out here that do not use social media, but still faithfully follow you online. We would love to post our referral links too.
