If I can see this banner in the app, does that count as a notice from amazon telling me I am eligible for this offer?

Avi
Avi

Anyone see anything in the terms that exclude gift cards?

RM
RM

Terms say only items sold by Amazon.com are eligible. Gift cards are sold by ACI Gift Cards, Inc. But then again, the 20% off Amex offer terms said the same thing, and that worked on gift cards.

RM

I’ve decided to roll the dice and buy some Safeway gift cards because they are easy to liquidate next time Safeway has a VGC or MCGC promo, but I am not holding my breath. For one thing, the terms say that you have to be a Prime member, and I am not, so I am not really sure why I am even seeing this offer in my app.

Justin
Justin

I don’t think you can use Safeway gift cards towards any other gift card purchase, have you actually done this?

RM
RM

Justin Yes. It’s not hardcoded. Of course, worst comes to worst, Safeway gift cards can just be organically spent on food and fuel.

You can’t say anything that absolute, it’s YMMV. Never had an issue buying vgc w/Safeway gc at my location

Jess

I have purchased dozens of gc’s with gc’s at Safeway.

my store specifically says you can buy other gift cards using a safeway gift card. i’ve done it many times.

I read the T&Cs and it says the promo code you receive (i.e. $10, $22, $60) need to be used on items sold by Amazon, but I didn’t see that your initial purchase in the app needs to by “sold by Amazon” to trigger the promo code. Maybe I missed it?

Celia
Celia

I agree. It seems the only stipulations are that you’re targeted in the app, the purchases need to be made in the app and that you’re a Prime member.

RM
RM

Yes, you are both correct. I read the T&Cs too quickly. Only the promo code is restricted to items sold by Amazon.com.

Closertothesunna
Closertothesunna

ACI Gift Cards, Inc. is a subsidiary of Amazon, although that doesn’t necessarily mean anything conclusive. Just also makes me wonder if items sold by Amazon Global Store UK are eligible.

Unclesam
Unclesam

Does it add the credit back to Amazon GC balance or it is promo credit with an expiry date

RM
RM

Unclesam Says that it’s a promo credit that expires on July 31, 2019.

saved even more by not shopping at amazon on prime day. 😛

the part explaining how to check if an order has received this offer is very confusing

RM
RM

Brian C I agree. I think the instructions just tell you how to check the order total; they don’t say anything about how to make sure your order is actually eligible.

I ordered Ring Smoke & CO deal, Fire Stick and new Sold by Amazon books, ($200+)

the instructions to check in app the jpg in the app for “order summary” section just shows “reward points” –

I took scrolling screen shots in the app, still a PITA for $22 if I have to contact CSR.

Celia
Celia

The instructions point to the rewards summary to check the subtotal, the part that’s highlighted in the screenshot. It’s to confirm how much you spent before shipping and taxes.

YoniPDX
YoniPDX

Celia

The important part of the equation that is not clear or highlighted in the app or on “order summary” is the qualified spend.

While I didn’t see it in the app or as part of T&C is some of my items are not shipping for approx 6+ weeks they are BO Amazon Items. I’m wondering if they will charge payment now or before shipping and will 6% CB still post correctly.

Celia
Celia

That’s an interesting question and based on past experience, it will charge when shipping and will give you the percentage at that time (5%). I’ve had charges post the day after a promo like this and have lost out.

As for the actual amount you spend for the credit promo, I would think that all items would count but that’s a guess since technically you could cancel the items after the credit but I’d think that’d be crappy of Amazon to not count all items ordered today.

I was referring to the highlight in their screenshot of Items: $39.99 to indicate what part of the order qualifies toward the promo.

RM
RM

Celia Check your credit card statement. I have charges already pending for items ordered today using this promo even though they are not shipping for a week.

Celia
Celia

I was referring to past experience but thanks 🙂

I’m glad it posted for you though, they’ve improved.

YoniPDX
YoniPDX

Click thru on Amazon points in Chase app (usually only click on UR points redeem to check earned/pending or multipler for UR points). Order from Monday posted and it was for
6x (but part of the order ships in Aug so hopefully it will post correct – but in retrospect it’s1% and less than $5 so not worth tracking honestly). Celia

YoniPDX
YoniPDX

Celia

Yeah that would be crappy, but I wouldn’t put Amazon past it (not crediting thinking we would forget about it but is only 1%) the $22 or $60 is a bigger deal.

FWIW I think that I figured out how they track orders, App orders begin #113- and browser/desktop #114-, to lazy to verify the 1 or 2 orders I’ve used Alexa for –

I do have two Echo’s that collect dust (Prime promo freebie) – the always listen – still kinda creeps me out and honestly don’t trust FB, Google, Amazon, Bixby – to not monetize and track all aspects of my life they can granted they probably already have a nice profile of my shopping habits, viewing, travel, etc.

I ordered the Samsung S9 yesterday. I took a chance an cancelled it and reordered from the app. Even got the extra $5 gift card promo added on this time, and the Amex promotion reapplied as well.

The original price of the phone was $449 and according to the in-app pictures it says the promotion applies to that ‘Items’ price line. I’ll probably pick up another $51 worth to put me over $500 to go for the $60… this is how they suck you in 😀

Canceling and reordering worked for me too. I pre-ordered a +$200 item clicking through Rakuten Ebates to Chrome and canceled that order. I then opened the Amazon app, scrolled down to the promo page, clicked get started and placed the item in my cart again. All 3 promos I used reapplied: $5 GC Prime Day Credit, 20% max $30 AmEx Promotion (with 1 Membership Rewards point). and $10 Whole Foods Prime. I placed the new order in the Amazon app and hope to get the 11% ($22) credit. Solid at that level since $500 only gets you 12% back ($60) while $100 gets you 10% ($10). Good luck, everyone!

Philip0116
Philip0116

Ah… I placed an order yesterday, and used MR promotion and gift card. If I cancel it and re-place from the app, will they refund the MR promotion and gift card immediately?

RM
RM

Philip0116 Gift card refunds are definitely immediate. I imagine MRs are too, but I am not sure.

Does anyone know if the total can be across multiple orders throughout the day or does it have to be a single order?

Gus

This is a rare mid-step by Amazon. Why screw over customers who purchased a bunch of stuff on day 1 by running a rebate promo on only day 2? It’s ‘Prime Day’ so all purchases should count. Also, customers could just reorder the first days non-lightening purchases and free return the day 1 purchases (to qualify for a bigger rebate) but that’s ridiculously wasteful—I’m not doing that. Finally, why train customers to wait on sales for bigger discounts? I appreciated some Prime Day sales but I don’t feel appreciated by Amazon as a result of this lame promo.

Tim
Tim

I called and tried to get them to honor the day 1 purchase. They wouldn’t, said nothing they could do. My order already shipped, so I’m screwed $60. Never buying on day 1 again, if at all.

Danny
Danny

For me, I just found it annoying and necessary. I bought a bunch of stuff yesterday morning and I luckily selected no rush shipping so I just cancelled most of it to get the promo. I do feel like they were probably trying to do something to help boost sales on day 2 so that’s probably why this is running today and not yesterday. This did end up delaying my shipping by 2 weeks since it’s temporarily out of stock so that is something to consider if you cancel.

got the offer! thanks doc!

two things: i placed an order with amazon for $526 but is a mixture of sold and shipped by amazon items and third party sellers. i didn’t see anything in the terms and conditions about whether all the items have to be sold and shipped by amazon or not but the $60 gift card has to be used on an item sold and shipped by amazon. also theres no confirmation by email stating “congratulations! your order qualified for a $60 gift card” or something like that so i hope im okay.

TLDR
TLDR

1. You have to be directly notified of this offer from amazon
2. You are prime memeber
3. Make purchase sold and shipped by amazon >= amount specified

Looks like I am not targeted.

Celia
Celia

There’s no stipulation that the items purchased have to be sold and shipped by Amazon. That is only for the forthcoming credit.

Yep, you are right.

Anyone other than me see this offer in their app even though their account is not Prime?

YoniPDX
YoniPDX

FWIW it looks like all the app orders start with 113 as the order number and browser/desktop orders with 114 – maybe Alexa orders with a11X perhaps its been about 2-3 years since I used Alexa to order

RM
RM

I am not sure whether this is correct. Looking over my orders, I’ve had app orders that start with 114 and browser orders that start with 113.

YoniPDX

Yeah looks like your correct I do too, I had to go back and check further back – so perhaps its is something else then. oh well

I am chatting with Amazon right now as the credit did not show up in my account today. They have confirmed that the deal did exist and are looking into it. The first rep I spoke with told me that there was no such deal. Just FYI
