The Offer
Direct links to offers: Reserve | Platinum. Those who are targeted should have received an e-mail stating as such. Unsure on subject lines.
- Select American Express Delta cardholders are being offered additional MQM and miles bonuses for completing spend requirements.
- Delta Reserve card: Spend $90,000 and get an extra 15,000 MQM & 15,000 miles (on top of the 15,000 you get for $30,000 and the other 15,000 you get for $60,000 spend)
- Delta Platinum: Spend $75,000 and get an extra 10,000 MQM & 10,000 miles (on top of the 10,000 you get for $25,000 and the other 10,000 you get for $50,000 spend)
The Fine Print
- Cardholders that are eligible are automatically enrolled
- The close of the calendar year is December 31, without regard to the time of the year that the account is opened. This means that for the first year of Card Membership, the Card Member’s Eligible Purchases bonus period may be less than twelve months. If in any calendar year Eligible Purchases on the Platinum Delta SkyMiles Credit Card is $25,000 or more, the Basic Card Member will be awarded 10,000 bonus miles and 10,000 Medallion Qualification Miles (“MQMs” as defined in the Delta SkyMiles Membership Guide and Program Rules), and if in that same calendar year Eligible Purchases on the Platinum Delta SkyMiles Credit Card is $50,000 or more, the Basic Card Member will be awarded an additional 10,000 bonus miles and 10,000 MQMs. Eligible Purchases means purchases for goods and services minus returns and other credits. Eligible Purchases do NOT include fees, interest charges, balance transfers, cash advances, purchases of travelers’ checks, purchases of gift cards; person-to-person payments, purchases or reloading of prepaid cards, or purchases of other cash equivalents. Additional Card Member(s) are not eligible to receive miles through Miles Boost; however all Eligible Purchases by the Additional Card Member(s) will count towards the Basic Card Member’s spend level to reach the Miles Boost threshold. Card Members may be permitted to have more than one Blue, Gold, or Platinum or Delta Reserve SkyMiles Credit Card from American Express account; however, Card Members are only eligible to receive one annual bonus for each type (i.e. Platinum or Reserve) of Delta SkyMiles Credit Card account from American Express.
Our Verdict
Personally I don’t think chasing status with this level of spend is worth it, but some people have so much spend they don’t know what to do with it/or think elite status is worth the spend. Personally I’d prefer to put it on a 2%+ cashback card but each to their own. It’s also important to note that the MQD waiver for Diamond status has increased to $250,000 from $25,000 for Delta cardholders.
Hat tip to reader Gaurav
Is Amex still offering the $90K option for 15K MQMs
90k spend.. aha lol!
are we sure this isn’t a public offer? i don’t see anywhere on here where it specifies you must be targeted for this offer. no place to login, only “You are automatically targeted for this special offer”
Recent datapoints show that ms spending from some places do not count towards mqd waiver. see, freequentflyerbook’s post, for example.
I was the one that originally posted this datapoint. If it doesn’t count for an AMEX signup bonus, it doesn’t count towards the MQD waiver, and vise-versa. However, all spend DOES count towards the MilesBoost Bonuses.
Is this a email Amex is sending out or on the webpage? Where can I see if i was targeted?
Sent out via e-mail, let me make this clearer.
For the plat it was “Special Offer: 10,000 more Bonus Miles and MQMs”. Interesting that the webpage doesn’t say anything about being restricted to email recipient.
Does DoC have any contacts at AmEx who can confirm if this is open? I have the Reserve but didn’t get an email on that.
Very curious myself! Seems like it could be targeted but also seems like it could be open to public
I got an email.
Is this for both business and personal cards?
Thank you
Seems like Delta + Amex needed to come up with a way to satisfy Diamond flyers upset at the change to the MQD waiver but they didn’t want to backtrack and repeal the change.
Not sure how this satisfies them really
Let’s assume you intend to clear the $250k Waiver.
Prior to this change your best return for that route was:
– Pers Plat: $50k spend for 70k SkyMiles
– Pers Reserve: $60k spend for 90k SkyMiles
– Bus Plat: $50k spend for 70k SkyMiles
– Bus Reserve: $60k spend for 90k SkyMiles
– $30k of unbonused spend on any card
For a total of 355k SkyMiles (and 100k MQMS) for 1.42 SkyMiles/$ ($250k spend)
You are using 4 AMEX Credit Card Slots.
After this change your most profitable route is:
– Either Plat: $75k spend for 105k SkyMiles
– Pers Reserve: $90k spend for 135k SkyMiles
– Bus Reserve: $90k spend for 135k SkyMiles
– No unbonused spend.
For a total of 375k SkyMiles (and 120k MQMS) for 1.47 SkyMiles/$ ($255k spend)
You are now only using 3 AMEX Credit Card Slots.
I’m with you now, I thought you meant it satisfies people not going for that waiver.
WWWWWWWhaaaaaaaaat they increased the MQD waiver to $250k?????
Ya
only for diamond.
it’s still 25k for everything up to Plat.
not saying I would do it, but it’s there.
This makes sense with the $250k MQD Waiver for Diamond
Good point, let me add that.
