There is a rumor circulating based on a qwww link (American Express often tests things there first before launching) that the annual fee on the American Express Platinum card will be increasing from $695 to $895. Presumably the Business Platinum will be similar.
We’ve been expecting an annual fee increase during the Fall 2025 refresh on the Platinum card, and so this isn’t exactly a surprise. Without a doubt, there will be many benefits and credits being added/changing during the refresh as well. For now we just know this rumor of the annual fee increase.
Interesting to see banks one-upping each other to see who can have the highest annual fee, after the Sapphire Reserve increased their annual fee from $550 to $795.

Decided to grab the 175k Platinum offer today in anticipation of the change. Best case I get a bunch of new benefits in the fall at the current AF, worst case I got a 175k bonus.
Due to an unforeseen inventory shortage, Hilton Gift Card sales are temporarily suspended. We are expecting new inventory soon and sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.
this is what it says on the hilton website I cant buy gift cards to meet the 50 dollar benefit on the business platinum any idea how to do it can I go to a hilton hotel and buy hilton gift cards?
Not sure about Hilton gift cards but the credits seem to work consistently at restaurants at Hilton properties. Same with Starbucks located on premises.
Worked for me at a Curio Collection restaurant and The Canopy recently.

American Express and Chase can both suck a duck. I’m done with the coupon shuffle. The enshittification of premiere luxury cards. We did the math, and both the Platinum and CSR will be closed.
Yeah I close CSR already and Amex Gold. Platinum might be next and just keep my Venture X.
who are the regular people that keep this card? For the average person it completely ignores the value of money
It could still be worth it for someone who travels: $400 Dell credit, $120 wireless credit, $200 airline fee credit, and lounge access at most major airports worldwide. I do fit into that category and considered it worth it at $695. Now that it’s going up and the Dell credit is being enshittified, I’m considering canceling.
Just a status flex I imagine. Makes them feel wealthy
I have the card because the value of the credits more than offsets the AF.
This year I’ve used the $200 hotel credit. $240 streaming credit. $200 airline credit. $100 Resy credit. $120 Uber credit. That’s $860 right there. On top of that I saved well over $100 in statement credits. And then there is Centurion lounge access.
Resy credit?
Yeah thats only with the gold, not sure what he is talking about
Yeah there is no Resy credit on the Platinum.
Man, they can raise it to $4k for all I care, as long as they keep SUBs competitive and profitable. Pretty crazy to imagine anyone keeping an almost $1k AF coupon book YOY though.
I’m surprised they didn’t raise it to $995.
I think resy will be the focus, with open table aligning with chase and so many restaurants moving from resy. my bet is that they’re actually gonna give a fat resy credit (like the gold card refresh) and maybe something on tock. and I think benefits wise if you can use the resy (most people can if they go to a metropolitan area like 3 or more times a year) you’ll actually come out neutral to positive. they might also do a SeatGeek or ticketmaster benefit too.
would love to see a tickpick credit but I doubt we will see that of all of the services
At this point, carrying an Amex platinum card is on the same level as using a Louis Vuitton carry on bag when traveling. There is no benefit. It’s only done to show off. I’d wager that 90% of those who carry either of them do not have any money in savings.
I have it. Not carrying, it’s in my sockdrawer.
No money in savings either. Recently closed my Chase savings after $900 bonus.
I think you’re greatly underestimating how much disposable income lots of people have. For the people that I know that have the card, they say its the hotel benefits that are the best for them as they are mostly families of 5 or 6 that get villas or suites so the hotel benefits pay for the card. I don’t exactly know how since its just me and my wife and we don’t have the plat, but most people I know will probably still keep it.
That is not a big deal but it is clearly a ripoff. I cannot justify this spending; would rather give a charity. Really look at the benefits – so constipated.
Cancelled CSC and if the fee for AmEx goes up a dime will cancel that in a heart beat.
And since they dispose of it they don’t have any money in savings. Both things can be true at the same time. Tons of high earners just let money fall through their fingers, Americans in general are terrible savers.
As a frequent (~8-10 flights per month on average) flier, we have an Amex platinum and do use the lounges. We also use most of the benefit “coupons”, so we’re not cardholders to show off, but I do know people that are. We’re also in the 10% that have plenty of money in the bank because aside from travel, we rarely buy anything.
I’ve been wanting a AF increase for years to limit the amount of people in the centurion lounges.
So glad I cancelled it last year. This game is getting pretty desperate for both users and banks.
