The Offer
No direct link to offer
- UnionBank is offering some credit card holders a $200 bonus when they open a new Ready To Go checking account in branch and complete the following requirements:
- Make an initial minimum direct deposit of $500 or more, and
- Log in to Online Banking or Mobile Banking at least one time
The Fine Print
- Valid for Union Bank Credit Card clients who do not have a Union Bank personal checking account and open a Ready to Go Checking account ($100 minimum deposit to open) in a branch between October 1 and November 17, 2018.
- The initial $500 minimum direct deposit must be received and the Online Banking or Mobile Banking log-in must occur within 60 calendar days after account opening to qualify for the $200 bonus.
- A qualifying direct deposit is an electronic deposit of your salary/paycheck, pension or government benefits (such as Social Security) from an employer or the government. Transfers from one account to another or deposits made at a banking location, Mobile Banking or ATM do not qualify as a direct deposit.
- $200 Bonus will be credited to the new checking account within 100 days of checking account opening.
- If your account is not active or in good standing from account opening through bonus payout, you will not receive the bonus.
- Limit one offer per lifetime.
- Bonus may be subject to tax reporting; applicable 1099 may be sent for tax purposes. Union Bank reserves the right to change this cash bonus offer at any time without prior notice.
Avoiding Fees
Monthly Fees
The monthly fee is $10 for California and $8 for WA and OR. This is waived if you do any of the following:
- Combined direct deposits of at least $500 per monthly statement period, or
- combined mobile check deposits of $500 or more per statement period,
- or $1,500 average monthly ledger balance (based on calendar month),
- or $5,000 monthly combined balance in your linked deposit accounts (excludes PurePoint Financial accounts)
Early Account Termination Fee
I wasn’t able to find an early account termination fee. Keep in mind the account needs to be open at time of bonus posting.
Our Verdict
It does say you need to bring the e-mail in branch, but then at the end of the e-mail there is a generic code of RTG 200. I wonder if you could just give that to a banker without being targeted and still get the bonus. This isn’t as good as the public bonus of $200 they have had previously that didn’t require any direct deposit. Also worth remembering that it looks like they are ChexSystems sensitive. I won’t be adding this to the best checking bonus page as it looks like it’s targeted or YMMV at best, if anybody goes for the deal then share your experiences in the comments below.
