[Targeted] Cathay Pacific Synchrony Credit Card 90,000 Mile Bonus

Update: Report of one person only getting a 40,000 mile bonus after spending $10,000.

I have now confirmed that the URL sent out via e-mail is not unique. Keep in mind the following:

  • 90,000 bonus is not mentioned on the application page at all. Use this at your own risk
  • Even though the URL is not unique, specific accounts might be targeted and others not targeted. Again use this link at your own risk
  • Use this link at your own risk. I have no idea if it will work or not.

Click here for the direct link. Goodluck to the brave among us that go for it. May you yell the battlecry of be the data point you want to see as you click apply.

The Offer

Targeted offer sent out via e-mail. Subject line is ‘2019 is the year of rewards! Earn up to 90,000 Miles and more’

  • Cathay Pacific is offering some members a bonus of up to 90,000 miles on the co-branded Synchrony credit card. Bonus broken down as follows:
    • 50,000 miles after $5,000 in spend within the first 90 days
    • Additional 40,000 miles after $5,000 extra spend within the first six months

Card Details

  • Annual fee of $95 is not waived the first year
  • Card earns at the following rates:
    • 2x Asia miles per $1 spent on eligible Cathay Pacific travel and in-flight purchases
    • 1.5x Asia miles per $1 spent on dining in the US or aboard
    • 1.5x Asia miles per $1 spent on purchases outside of the US
    • 1x Asia miles on all other purchases
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Complimentary first year green tier membership in the Marco Polo Club (Cathay Pacific’s loyalty program. Green tier is their base level and as I understand it first year is always free. Second year onwards you need to pay $100 USD or earn 100 Club points).
  • Not available to applicants who have or have had the Cathay Pacific Visa card. Not sure if this is enforced?

Our Verdict

There’s actually a direct link, but I’m not sure if the promo code at the end is unique or not. If anybody else also got this e-mail I’d love to know what your link was (feel free to e-mail me at [email protected]. I won’t share it unless it’s the same as the other readers). We’ve seen deals of 65,000 miles before, this is an extra 25,000 miles but does require $10,000 in spend vs $5,000. The offer you prefer will depend on how easily you can hit the $10,000 spend requirement. Very strong offer if you can and worth doing IMO.

A few other things to note:

I have had this card in the past (fall of 2017). I used the link and just had 40,000 points post. So it appears a) this is churnable but b) it’s defaulting to the public offer of 40,000 after $2,000 spent, not the 50,000 plus 40,000.

When were you approved for card, I assume on or just after Feb 6th? The miles posted for you when your first statement cut?

The direct link takes me to an application page with a bunch of Chinese characters. I a guess I’m not one of the ‘brave among us’ that DoC referenced because the Chinese characters made me question the safety and security of any data transmitted in the application.

Cathay Pacific is based in Hong Kong, so perhaps you should avoid the airline entirely. Also make sure to back away slowly if you see any Chinese people on the street, so they don’t try to steal your precious data.

DP: applied and approved with CL 6000 on 02/07, received the card yesterday and confirmed with online chat the offer is 40k/2000. It looks like for anyone not targeted will receive the public offer

I was targeted for 50k/5000 but applied the 90k,however I think 40k/2000 is a better one than my original 50K

I also applied. Approved for 26k limit but disappointed to hear about 40k/2k offer. Is there any chance the 90k offer is coded in?

got the card in the mail today, chatted and was told my bonus offer is 40k/2k. oh well, i’m going to do the 2k and see what happens. its possible the 90k bonus is coded on there in a way the customer service reps cant see. for whatever reason, and my recommendation moving forward for doc readers who apply for synchrony, synchrony does not seem to tie the bonus to the application link in any way, but instead directly to the email or address somehow. so dont apply for these offers expecting to get the targeted bonus. i lost out on the stash hotel credit card bonus for the same reason (not targeted for the increased offer) even though i applied at a page that explicitly advertised the increased bonus.

At your own risk in more ways than one. When I applied for the previous good Synchrony offer (65K) they gave me a whopping $300 credit line. Just to clarify, I haven’t received this kind of credit line in the last 20 years at least. And no, you won’t be able to reconsider that if you run into this predicament. http://lazytravelers.net/ritz-carlton-card-dead/

Funny enough, I was the one who shared the tip with Will to create this post, and I was just declined. So much for having a 760 score average with a solid history with Synchrony. It’s a real hit or miss experience when it comes to this bank. C’est le vie and best of luck to others getting this deal.
