The Offer
- Choice Privileges is currently offering a 100% bonus when you transfer Choice Points to United miles. The standard rate is 5 Choice Points to 1 United mile, under this promotion you’d receive 2 United miles for every 5 Choice points. You must transfer a minimum of 5,000 Choice points and transfers must be done in increments of 1,000.
The Fine Print
- For a limited time, Choice Privileges members are eligible to redeem 5,000 or more Choice Privileges points into United MileagePlus miles at double the normal rate; while this promotion lasts for every 5,000 Choice Privileges points you redeem, you’ll get for 2,000 United MileagePlus miles, instead of 1,000.
- Minimum redemption is 5,000 Choice Privileges points (for 2,000 United MileagePlus miles) and redemptions above 5,000 must be in 1,000 point increments.
- Transactions must be completed between 09:00 a.m. ET June 26 and 11:59 p.m. ET July 31, 2020 to be eligible to receive the offer. All other exchange transaction qualifications apply.
- Members must also have an active United MileagePlus account; miles will be posted to your United MileagePlus account within 48 hours after your transaction is complete.
- Offer may not be valid for all members.
- All other terms and conditions of the Choice Privileges Rewards Program apply. Choice Hotels reserves the right to amend these terms or terminate this promotion at any time.
Our Verdict
I guess Choice cut the transfer rate at some point as I see in the past United offered a 30% transfer bonus and 5,000 Choice points resulted in 3,250 United miles. I think most people will prefer the Choice points over the United miles, but that will really depend on how you value both currencies.
Hat tip to Loyalty Lobby
United miles no longer expire, so there’s no reason to do such a transfer just to keep United miles alive (as there might have been a couple years ago).
But: Choice points do still need activity every 18 months (with a pause until 31 Dec 2020) to not expire, so if you’re not sure when you’ll have Choice earning activity again, I guess this might be a good opportunity to transfer a small amount and renew your Choice points for another 18 months.
