The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Delta is offering a 50% bonus on eligible hotel, car and retail partners through September 30, 2018. You need to register by July 24th, 2018

The Fine Print

  • This offer is limited to SkyMiles members residing in the US
  • Offer registration is required. To register, members need to visit dedicated landing page and register with their SkyMiles number. Registration page will display a message if member is not eligible. Members can register from July 21, 2018 until July 24, 2018
  • Registered SkyMiles members will earn 50% bonus miles for every eligible transaction with participating partner they earn miles with between July 21, 2018 and September 30, 2018 up to a maximum of 10,000 bonus miles per member.
  • The following SkyMiles partners are participating in this offer: Hotels & Airbnb, Car Rental Partners & Lyft, SkyMiles Cruises, FTD, Vinesse, SkyMiles Shopping US and SkyMiles Dining

Our Verdict

Unfortunately the bonus only works on base miles and not on bonus miles, so if Delta offers a shopping portal bonus you wouldn’t earn a 50% bonus on the bonus you’d earn from that promotion, you’d only earn it on the miles you’d normally earn. Previously Delta has offered 1,000 miles for using a new partner as a semi regular promotion, you’ll probably be best off waiting for that offer to come back around for any partners you haven’t used before.

I’m surprised this one is getting so much publicity. Seems pretty worthless to me but maybe I’m missing something. Perhaps a slow travel news day?

Concur…. DoC makes the “slick” advertising of a most underwhelming deal worse with his blaring headline that has you think that this is the usual 35% discount (or 50%) off this or that (non) car rental deal. Instead, this is another one of those bogus 50% bonuses in point rates —- wow, by golly, just wow! (no mention of just how time-wasting for little benefit such deals notoriously are…. just say 50% and somebody’s gonna think wow, this is great! )

When we get actual “real” good news, we’re likely to be so beaten down by all the fluff, trivia, and bank whatever…. (this is “bank bonus month” after all) that we’ll miss it cause we all fell asleep.

Just because you have poor reading comprehension doesn’t mean it’s a miss leading headline. Very fair headline and he gets to the point in the verdict making it clear that this sucks.

I’m sure DL’s “cashback” is underwhelming (you’d do better going to cashbackmonitor and finding the best offer), but isn’t DL the ONLY cashback on airbnb? I remember it used to be something like 3 miles per dollar and they reduced it to 1. But 1 1/2 is better than 1, so I signed up for the promo. Obviously modest, but better than no promo.

I continue to see occasional comments here and on other blogs that complain about not finding useful information from a post. And yet none of those comments provide anything relevant to readers who may actually benefit from the content. Many of us have benefitted greatly from this DoC post as well as many others. If you want to add something useful please do so. And if you don’t, consider moving on and not wasting space or our time.
