Small update: It looks like this is working for everybody (e.g people get successful message when signing up). I doubt everybody will actually get the Platinum status unless you received the targeted e-mail, but worth a try anyway! Keep in mind the terms state: “IHG and ANA reserve the right to cancel a member’s account if fraudulent use of the offer is detected”. I highly doubt IHG/ANA will actually cancel accounts, I’d be shocked if they do. Worst case scenario would just be not honoring the promotion in my opinion, but something to keep in mind.

Our Verdict
You receive the upgraded status until March 31st, 2019. Gives you a little less than a year. A full list of benefits can be found here. Some nice stuff like lounge access, premium economy upgrades and more. This also gives you Star Alliance gold, giving you United benefits such as priority boarding, lounge access and free checked bag.
I did this as soon as I read the post. Got the card with Platinum status in the mail last night. Almost 4 months!

Just checked my account and was upgraded. Must have upgraded in the last 6 days or so, as AwardWallet still shows Member and last update was 6 days ago. I did not receive any email. Did the same for my wife but hers still not upgraded yet.

The fact that you can google IHG Trip Extras and the offer is the 3rd link that shows up makes it very, very doubtful that IHG could cancel accounts for signing up. Nowhere in the fine print does it say you have to receive the offer through your email account. I received the offer through a simple google search, so what. This is very different than using a promo code that someone was emailed. That said, I doubt that everyone signing up will get this.
