The Offer

  • Some SPG personal cardholders are being offered a bonus Starpoint for every dollar spent from the time you register until December 31st, 2017. Up to a limit of 5,000 bonus Starpoints

The Fine Print

  • Valid until December 31st, 2017
  • Must register by November 30th, 2017

Our Verdict

Means you’re card will earn 2x on all purchases, great offer if you are targeted. We’ve seen spending bonuses on this card before but:

  • They were targeted towards people with their AF due during the bonus period. This isn’t the case this time.
  • They required you to spend a minimum amount (e.g $5,000) to get any points. This one just earns 1x bonus point per $1 spent with no minimum spend requirement.

Definitely worth checking to see if you’re targeted. Fingers crossed American Express are rolling this out to other cards as well.

I got the offer. I have not been using this card much, other than for SPG stays. Unfortunately, I may not be able to put much spend on the card, because I have four other cards in play right now.

I re-jigged my spending patterns to maximize this offer, and I just noticed that AMEX is depositing the bonus points into my SPG account on a daily basis. Bonus Starpoints added to my account every day for the last five days.

Gives me an idea….. for a perfect retort. When renewal times comes ’round in the spring, will copy screenshot of their message and my answer,

“I’m sorry. You didn’t invite me to your party. I’m looking for something else now.”

I had that banner yesterday when I logged in on my personal card. I clicked through to register and it led to a blank page. First I chatted, they couldn’t help, then I called amex. I was transferred 10 times (this is a marketing thing, no, this is an IT thing, etc.) and spent over an hour trying to sign up. Citi’s IT team is incompetent, but they always have good customer service (here’s x points or $x for your trouble). After all that time, nothing from amex. Luckily I took a screenshot of the offer because it disappears after you’ve clicked on it more than a couple times. Still they couldn’t figure out how to do it. I just clicked through your banner and could sign up. LOL Thanks Doc!

Try it again. I got the same message. Then I tried to login later, and I got this other message: “We’re sorry. This promotion is only open to invited Card Members.”

You might be lucky though 🙂

I never received an invitation e-mail but it asked me to accept the terms when I logged in through the link and then I got a confirmation message of my enrollment via e-mail. Thanks!
