Our Verdict

The Business card also has an increased bonus of 35,000 points. These are the highest bonuses ever on these cards, they do have a slightly higher spend requirement than last time they were offered (last time the personal required only $3,000 total spend). Although SPG points are now transferable to Marriott at a rate of 1:3.

Keep in mind you’re not eligible for a bonus on this card if you have or have had this card before (business card is treated separately, so this only applies if you’ve had or have the SPG personal card). Also keep in mind the normal American Express application rules. Also read this page on things everybody should know about American Express cards first.

[Read: Best Uses Of Marriott & SPG Points]

If you can meet the minimum spend requirements and haven’t had (or have) this card before then I’d recommend applying, I’d recommend using another readers referral link as well (these can be found here).

I’ll create a detailed post with the best uses of 35,000 points shortly as well. If you’ve recently signed up for this card, ask to be matched with American Express.

Can I combine my FNBO bank card and SPG card enquiry into one pull?

Possible to combine FNBO bank credit card offered by AMEX with SPG card enquiry into one if applied on the same day?

DoC, does buying VGCs at Office Depot count for the minimum spend requirements? I can see on Amex’s site that they know it’s a gift card being purchased. In the transaction details it refers to:

VISA,KEVLAR,$20-200
INCOMM FEES 1

So I hope that spending counts.

Thanks William! I actually got my 25k points today. I need to spend a bit less than $800 to get the other 10k. I’m going tomorrow (or later today, as it just went to midnight 4/15) to get four more $200 gift cards with no fees.

Any data points on whether or not Plastique transactions count toward the spend?

i’m considering cutting Navient a large Plastique check to wipe out uncapitalized interest and this bonus would be a perfect way to get that at an excellent discount

Do points ever expire? I also heard that you can cancel the card and still keep the points?

I have had my SPG AM EX card less than 3 weeks. They said NO.

Best charge cards to combine hard pulls with right now? Was gonna go for the PRG but I’d rather wait for the 75k offer on that.

Can I get clarification on the incremental bonus for previous card holders?

“As of February 25th, 2016 it’s also only possible to get each credit card bonus once per lifetime.” https://www.doctorofcredit.com/list-of-churnable-credit-cards/#American_Express Does this supersede the May 1st, 2014 comment that an incremental bonus is available?

i.e., I had this card 4 years ago and only got a 25k bonus. Is it possible to get 10k now? Would I need to spend $5k (or $2k or $3k)?

So with both the personal and business versions having the same bonus (ignoring the increased spend requirement on the business), is there any reason to get a particular version over the other? I have never had either version of the card.

The only thing I can think of would be the business version shouldn’t show up on my credit reports except for the initial HP.

Business Version gives you Sheraton Club access, other than that it’s the same.

Man, I JUST got approved for the 30k incognito offer yesterday. I could have used this offer and my wife’s referral and made an extra 10K SPG combined.

I saw on reddit where people were having success calling for a match and getting courtesy points so I gave it a try. They opened a “case” for the “back office” to see about matching the offer AND gave me 3,000 courtesy points as well! Give it a try if you got the card within the last 3-6 months!
