Our Verdict

This is the equal highest bonus ever on this card, last time it was offered it had a lower total spend requirement of only $5,000. That being said SPG has been acquired by Marriott now and SPG points can be transferred to Marriott at a rate of 1:3.

Keep in mind you’re not eligible for a bonus on this card if you have or have had this card before (personal card is treated separately, so this only applies if you’ve had or have the SPG business card). Also keep in mind the normal American Express application rules. Also read this page on things everybody should know about American Express cards first.

[Read: Best Uses Of Marriott & SPG Points]

Should you apply? Well that depends if you can meet the minimum spend requirement of $8,000 (remember $3,000 of that is first six months and the other $5,000 is the first three months). Personally I wouldn’t risk manufactured spend with American Express, but everybody has different risk levels.

If you can meet the minimum spend requirement and haven’t already gotten this card – I’d go for it. I’d recommend using another readers referral link as well (these can be found here). SPG points are extremely valuable for SPG stays and can be converted to a lot of airline partners at good rates (with a bonus 5,000 for every 20,000 converted). You can also use these points to get closer to a Marriott Flight + Hotel package.

If you’ve recently signed up for this card, ask to be matched with American Express.  There is also a similar offer on the personal card for 35,000 points but with a lower minimum spend requirement.

Really odd.

I signed up for this 35,000 point offer and I’ve already received two points posted to my account after only a small amount of spend . >$100 , <$1000.

I received a 30,000 deposit and a 7,500 deposit..

Bonus +30,000 – 03/20/2018
SPG AX DEFAULT
Bonus +7,500 – 03/17/2018
SPG AX DEFAULT

This is a brand new Starwood account, and I have no activity outside of the small Amex spend.

Can Amex claw back from Stawwood since it is it's own program? I'd rather not spend another $7000+ if I don't have to.

Should I still try to make the spend or wait and see? I was really going to be stretching to make the spend with the the AMEX issues surrounding MS.

Could I link to Marriott transfer my points and then unlink? (If there is an option to unlink the programs?)

Disregard.

I believe may have been for referral bonuses.

I just signed up for the Business card and AmEx has issued me a new SPG account. I have had a SPG membership for a few years.

What’s the best way to get my old SPG account associated with the new AmEx card?

I know there’s a link on SPG to combine the accounts (below), but will that ensure my points earned on the new card go to the old account number or do I need to also contact AmEx?

I think what happened is the old SPG account was under my former address (my parent’s place). When I filled out that new AmEx application, I put my current address. The different addresses caused the field that had my SPG account number to be ignored.

Question:
Applied for this SPG Business and was declined.
Reason: You currently have the maximum number and type of Amex card accounts that we allow.

I have 4 personal, 1 gold charge card and 1 gold business. Which one should i get rid off?

I have a comment, and a question.

My comment: Since Amex card bonuses are generally once-in-a-lifetime, there is a limited number of total Amex bonuses a person can get. Now that Marriott has purchased Starwood, the entire SPG system will be going away within two years or so, and there will presumably be no more SPG cards issued. No point passing up one of the limited number of opportunities to get an Amex bonus offer. So, get this Amex card while the getting is good!

My question: I currently have 3 Amex cards in my name, and am an authorized user on a 4th Amex card. I know Amex generally won’t give a person more than 4 Amex cards. So, should I ask to be removed as an authorized user? And if I do ask to be removed as an authorized user, how long should I wait until I apply?

The limit is 4 credit cards per person, though some people are able to get 5 now. There does not seem to be any limitation on their charge cards though, only credit cards.

I recently ran into this 4-CC wall when applying for a 5th. I closed one of my existing 4, waited 24 hours and reapplied for an instant approval.

If I can meet minimum spend on both the spg business and personal immediately, by paying taxes and mortgage and other legit large purchases – would be I be able to get amex to post the points in time to transfer to Marriot-> SW for the CP at this point?

How soon would I be able to get Amex to post the points?

I would like to know the answer to your question as well…

Another point to consider.. if you are looking at Plastiq to pay your mortgage, do it before Feb 28, as the fees are 2% only.

If you’ve previously had the Business SPG and bonus obtained as a sole prop/#SS – are you able to get another bonus if you apply with an EIN?

If you’ve had the Business SPG and bonus from from a corp/partnership (w/EIN) – can you get another bonus with a different EIN?

I asked an american sounding phone rep and he said ‘no – it’s tied to you SS#’ but that strikes me as a little sloppy for medium/large size businesses.

I know AMEX personal card offer is once per life time, not churnable.
How about AMEX BIZ card offer?
I closed my AMEX SPG BIZ card (obtained as a sole prop/#SS) last Oct, can I churn this 35K SPG BIZ offer now?

Thank you very much!

Is Amex’s credit card limit 4 or 5? I have 3x Delta and one BCP. I tried calling CSRs but they are by and large clueless and don’t even know their own policies.

Would applying for SPG open and then offer to cancel a card on recon work? Please help.

I have five. I wanted to get the Blue Bus card a few weeks ago so I cancelled my Hilton card and then applied for the Blue Bus a few weeks later. It went pending, but I was approved within a few days.

You could sign up for 3 other credit cards and meet the min spend with that $8000 instead of getting this one, and get a lot more signup value out of your spend. I’m gonna pass.

Do you have any suggestions for those other cards? I’m thinking about the same thing – already have CSP, CSR, Amex Blue Cash Everyday and the Personal SPG amex (the last two within the last 45 days). I’m at 4/24 with that.

Are there any reports of Amex clawing back partner sign-up bonuses due to MS? I know there were plenty of reports for the Platinum, and even some for Gold & Green. But I haven’t heard of any clawbacks for hotel/airline bonuses when MS was used.
