Cardcash No Longer Earns 5x with INK

Cardcash no longer earns 5x when paying with the Chase INK credit card.

Up until June 16, we’d earn 5x Ultimate Rewards points when buying gift cards on Cardcash.com (whether paying with Paypal or direct payment) since it came up as ‘Utilities’ for reasons that aren’t entirely clear.

Multiple reports indicate that this is no longer the case.

Purchases made on June 15 and prior used to come up as ‘Utilities’. From June 16 and on it comes up as ‘Recreation.’

I’d guess it was either a cost savings measure that by changing their category their processing fees are less. There’s also a chance that Chase or Visa pressured them to change it.

Even Cardcash purchases paid with Paypal are no longer earning 5x since June 16 as confirmed by Demflyers, and it now comes up as Recreation.

I actually did a few tests yesterday to check myself, and I’ll see more tomorrow when the charges post. In any case, no Cardcash payments will earn 5x anymore. Gyft and PPDG should still work fine (I ran a test on this too, but there’s no reason to think anything changed). Update: Confirmed. No form of Cardcash payment will earn 5x (app, desktop, Paypal, ABC), but PPDG and Gyft are still working.

In addition, AMEX (at least fidelity) treat cardcash purchases as Cash Advance. They wont budge. You will need to go thru paypal.

Anybody try ABC yet with INK direct or INK linked via Paypal? I never bought from ABC, just sold to them. So I don’t know if they ever coded 5x at any time.

I was buying $5000 or more a month from CardCash with my Inks with nary an issue, as my main source of UR.

Not sure what I will be doing now. Either a 2% card or Citi ATT & More, I guess.

looks like i’m going back to Cardpool. They often have similar discounts, and earn 2% thru TopCashback. And once you hit the limit, just create another account.

but this really sucks. i loved getting 5x UR for everyday purchases, and at a discount to boot. Esp Starbucks, movie theaters, etc.

Does ABC giftcards still code as 5x by chance?

I will really miss this site. I love buying the visa and mastercard giftcard at a discount and getting 5 points! I would always buy as many as I could. I did receive MANY zeroed out gift cards but I alkways got a refund. This was my pajama point making scheme. I maxed out 2 ink card a year on this and would have applied fo rmore ink cards if not for 5/24. Any other card sites that sell visa & mastercard GC with no fee? I will be dammed, I can never get GYFT to work. I have a feeling somehow its linked to paypal which I am banned for life.

cardcash sold Visa and Mastercard open loop gc? That was a big opportunity. BTW, do you have other non-5x spending on Ink? Just wondering how you are going under Chase’s radar with maxing 5x bonus.

I bought $300 worth of cards on Cardcash on 6/13 which earned 5x. Of course they were zeroed out that same day when I went shopping at Home Depot so I made a claim and my charge was returned under “recreation” on the 18th, so I actually made 4x on a return, LOL.

Slimeball company though…most of my recent purchases have been zeroed out before I used the cards. One of them was bought with a stolen credit card per VitaminShoppe and cancelled and Cardcash still wouldn’t refund me, so I had to chargeback through Chase. It wouldn’t surprise me if Cardcash was in on the scam and assisted in draining balances right after their 45 day mark.

Good riddance. Hope they go out of business.

I’ve had a few zero balance cards, but they have always given me my money back.

Cardcash never refused me refund even after when their 45 days passed when I proved that their card was stopped by the merchant for fraud issue.
BTW, if it passed 45 days, you really have no ground to complain about the drained balance. You know fully about the risk of buying second hand gift card. And cardcash’s 45 days guarantee is actually pretty good. So it’s quite unfair to claim they didn’t refund you after 45 days have paased. It’s actually YOUR responsibility to spend it before 45 days mark.

The only time I hear about these opportunities is when they’re no longer available. And I have two Ink Plus cards. Where can we find out about these opportunities? I get that some people get all hurt when people talk about them openly, so no need to remind me, but obviously some are finding the information somewhere?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO

LOL! I bought $5,000 of gift cards on June 16th. You’ve gotta be kidding me.

And @Clay – this has been mentioned on many forums, including this one – several times.

Yeah, on every single Cardcash post DOC says that it has been earning 5X on Ink. Short of creating a separate post saying what earns 5X on Ink and what doesn’t, it’s pretty clear.

Is there any data points on Ink mastercards? It could be that this only effects visa cards.
