Free $9 Per Amex Card with Ticketmaster & Amex Checkout

The Offer

Direct Link

  • Make a $1 purchase/donation to the White Sox via Amex Checkout and receive a $10 statement credit. Total $9 money maker per Amex card.

[UPDATE: That Link is no longer working. Here’s a link to a different charity which is still working currently. Thanks to Steve for letting us know.]

[UPDATE #2: That link no longer works either. The best available currently is a $5 donation, which will just be a $5 moneymaker. Or you can wait to see if any other possibility opens up before the September deadline.]

As we noted previously, the offer credit has been working per Amex card, so you should get the $10 for multiple Amex cards in the same login, as well as for Amex cards from separate logins. Just make a separate donation on each card with Amex checkout.

For some reason, the system defaults you to a $2 donation. Just change the quantity to $1, choose Amex Checkout, and you’re good to go.

ticketmaster amex deal

 The Fine Print

  • Like all Amex Checkout deals, this expires 9/7/15.

Our Verdict

It’s worth doing this offer right away since that donation link may not work forever. There’s is a small risk that Amex could reverse policy and only allow the offer once per login, but hopefully that won’t happen. Personally, I’ll be making a $1 donation on each of my Amex cards right after publishing this post.

Free money! We don’t know how long this one will last so we sent it out via the DoC Hot Deals Twitter account, see How To Receive Mobile Notifications For Hot Deals That Will Likely Die Quickly.

I just received an email today that I violated Ticketmaster’s terms and that my ticket would be cancelled. It seems they purposely waited to do this until after the Amex Checkout deal ended. I purchased this weeks ago. Do I have any recourse?

I highly doubt they purposefully waited. If you will read through previous comments on this page, many of us got those cancellation notices weeks ago. Maybe you will actually luck out in that Amex won’t reverse your statement credit since the refund is being processed after the promotional period is over!

I know this happened to several people. I didn’t see any update by anyone so I wasn’t sure what everyone ended up doing. The weird thing is that the email said that one ticket was cancelled but the website shows a different one cancelled.

I think the best answer is you do nothing in a situation like this — it can only hurt all of us in the future if a lot of people call in demanding $10 in free money for a $1 or $5 ticket that you got refunded for. I did follow up with American Express over my Wall Street Journal credits that didn’t post. I ordered subscriptions and paid $12.50 for them. WSJ also caused me a lot of grief and got my FatWallet account suspended too. Fortunately, I got mine reinstated by sending them pages upon pages of PDF receipts, but I read of at least one other user who was permanently banned over that offer, which is rather infuriating to think about. I still haven’t received any credits through that site, but they are pending since July. I had to fight for my Southwest Airlines miles because they weren’t going to track either. I eventually got those though.

That’s odd. My FatWallet tracked fine and I already received my $20 payment. My WSJ credit didn’t post so I chatted with Amex a few days ago and the guy gladly credited me. I haven’t had to complain about any other Amex Checkout purchases. Hopefully I won’t get the credit clawed back for TicketMaster. Do you know if it was a specific ticket that was cancelled for the majority of people or was it all different kinds?

I made purchases of cheap movies tickets and baseball games in late July, and I just now got a message from ticket master that they cancelled a few of my tickets. I’m guessing it might be because I didn’t show up for the four or five events I purchased, but they actually didn’t mention a refund in the email.

Ugh, ticketmaster is the worst. They refunded the $1 Sox donation on 13 Aug and AmEx took back their $10 on 15 Aug. Interestingly enough, they’ve only done it on my Blue Cash cards (mine and one AU). They haven’t come after the Blue transaction (yet…)

Also received an email from Ticketmaster saying that I violated their terms and that the donation to the Chicago Sox stuff would be canceled.

2 claw backs thus far.

Clawbacks like Amex took back the $10 credit already? I see refund from TM, but no clawback from Amex… yet.

Clawback will probably show up in a couple of days.

Received an email from Ticketmaster saying that I violated their terms and that the donation to the Chicago Sox stuff would be canceled. So I guess Amex will claw back the $10.

So did I for theater donation. How many did you do from your Ticketmaster account? Just curious. I had seven. I emailed them back and requested them to explain the terms I violated. So far they haven’t responded.

About 22 for Ticketmaster. One or two were for $5, and the others were $1 (Sox and Theatre).
But so far, I have only received 1 email from ticketmaster. And Amex does not show the $10 charge yet, so I am assuming it will be showing soon. I had completed all the “purchases” about 3 weeks ago.

Same…looks like “Another” is suggesting above that he experienced a clawback already. Leave it to Ticketmaster to make sure they don’t let a dime leave on the table. Wonder what their issue was with all this and why they went to war over it. Too many 30 cent transaction fees? Guess it’s asking too much to just let it slide and let the money go to charity.

I received an e-mail from Ticketmaster tonight saying that I needed to contact American Express about why the donation was cancelled. They didn’t explain the Ticketmaster terms that I supposedly violated.

Alert!

Amex charge me $10 for the bonus they gave me for the small amount transaction while they take this small amount off. That is, if you pay $1 for Ticketmaster using Amex Checkout, they previously gave me $10; then they gave me another $1, but newly charged me $10;

This happened to all Amex cards (= 10 cards) that I used from Ticketmaster;

Is my webpage being wonky or does the $1 donation to Historic Tennessee Theatre work again for ticketmaster?!

Not sure if amex is pulling the plug even though it states through 9/7 but the offer no longer shows on their deals page when you log into your account. it is gone from all my cards. the direct link here is still showing but is it active?

If you go to http://www.americanexpress.com, it is still being advertised on their page. It is the second slide on the marquee! I think we are safe for now 🙂

Check harder. It still shows on accounts when you sign on. No panic necessary. I’ve got 4 sign-on accounts. Shows on most if not all 20 cards.

I see it on the main page as bryan indicated. I did check ALL my accounts when i sign on and it does not show on any of them any longer. I made a few purchases already that have posted so waiting to see if i get the credit. how long after it posts have you seen the $10 credit made?

I stated this morning that I hadn’t had any credits post in a few days. I checked all of my accounts before writing that. Sometime in the last few hours, I’ve had more credits post across all my accounts which were dated yesterday. I can confirm I have now received credits for Sabon, Ticketmaster, Newegg, and WSJ!

I’m glad someone figured out that this was an option for Amex checkout. Definitely a win-win situation with both the charity as well as ourselves benefiting. I’d be curious to know how much they collected while it worked.

Chuck/William, You guys do a great job with the site, keep it up!!
