Kroger: $100 Fee-Free Visa/MC Gift Card Deal

The Offer

Direct Link (sort by Gift Cards)

  • Buy one $100 Visa or MasterCard gift card with no activation fee.

Find the coupon in your Kroger account. Should be the same at Kroger-affiliated stores.

“Limit one coupon per transaction per day.” The terms indicate that this deal can be done one time per day. Apparently, you save the digital coupon and it’ll be usable once per day. I wouldn’t be surprised if it works multiple times on the same day in practice, but it won’t work on two cards in the same transaction, as per the terms. We’ll have to wait for data points to hear more. Maybe it won’t work more than one time total, who knows.

Terms:

  • Expires 5/6/17 (today and tomorrow)
  • $100 denomination only: not valid on variable-load cards (even if you choose $100) or $25 or $50 cards

Other Deals

There are also a few other gift card deals for Sephora, Hotels.com, Michaels, Petco, Gap, and Bath & Body Works.

Our Verdict

Hopefully, you’ll be able to get at least two fee-free Visa gift cards, one today and one tomorrow, and maybe it’ll work for more too. As an added bonus should also earn 2x fuel points on fixed-value Visa/MC gift card and on third-party gift cards.

There’s also currently a digital coupon to get 2x fuel points on groceries over the weekend, so today and tomorrow are good shopping days as well.

Liquidating gift cards

Not directly relevant to this post, but if one was to have a $500 american express gift card– 1) what is the fastest way to liquidate? 2) What is the cheapest way to liquidate?

fastest) probably load it to Venmo and send it to a trusted person and having them send u the cash

cheapest) probably loading it to Amazon credit, although this is arguably not exactly liquidation. or use it to pay off utility bills.

I notice this offer has now updated from limit one per transaction day to limit one per household. I purchased one yesterday and now I’m unable to get the coupon to load for today. Anyone else had this same experience?

I had the exact same experience. Bought a card last night and this morning the coupon was gone. Couldn’t find it anywhere – does not even show in my redeemed offers list.

** I FIGURED OUT WHY SOMETIMES THE DISCOUNT DOESN’T COME OFF AT THE REGISTER **

If you load the coupon to your account and then look at it FROM THE APP, it shows you the SKUs which apply to the offer. Unfortunately, only the old style packaging (Visa SKU: 0007675007069 and MasterCard SKU: 0007675007072) apply to the offer. The chrome/silver packaging that you see in stores commonly these days will not trigger the discount because the SKU on that one is different.

Actually I just used the offer on two separate $100 chrome packaging VGC and had no issues with the activation fee being taken off.

Did you have two open up two separate Kroger plus cards to get it to work twice in one day?

Did you use the same loyalty card for both vgc s or did you use two different cards to be able to use the digital coupon twice?

We had two separate accounts that we use for times like these.

Andy DP’s if Kroger, and I don’t mean any other affiliates, allow you to use a CC?

This may sound like a good deal, but if you really think about, you only saved like what? $1.20. I assume most people buy these cards using obc or freedom etc, which give 5% back.

$500 vgc are available at Kroger daily for $506.

$100 cards are easier to liquidate for most. In volume, your statement applies. You are also leaving out these fixed cards give 200 fuel points with a $7 value if you max the gas (35 gallons)

In what way are $100 cards easier to liquidate?

Most people that aren’t MSing on large scales can’t liquidate $500’s as easily as smaller denominations that can be used for utilities and such. I do about 2k a week and only use 500’s for MO’s, then use these smaller ones for Costco trips and ultlities. The main thing is drain these gift cards asap to avoid them being compromised.

The way to do this to buy $100 with AE blue cash everyday (3% discount). Chase and AE Preferred (5%) should be used to buy $500 vgc to maximize the returns.

If you’re MSing to any extent to maximize each cards limits, the order in which you do this doesn’t matter. I’d say the Freedom takes priority when the quarter comes around, since you have all year for the Amex Everyday/Preferred.

Some cashiers in Ralph‘s and VONS did not allow me to use credit card to buy VGC or MCGC. Once one of them even did not allow me to buy Amazon GC.

Doesn’t look like it’s working at Mariano’s (Chicago) even though they are listed in the app 🙁 I think Kroger is still in the process of integrating their loyalty card.
