Kroger & Affiliates: 4x Fuel Points on Gift Cards through June 21

The Offer

Direct Link to offer (load coupon here)

  • Kroger stores are offering 4x fuel points on gift cards this weekend through June 21. Unlimited use.

The standard deal at Kroger is 2x fuel points on gift card purchases, and they’ll occasionally release offers like this one to get 4x fuel points. Login to your online account to find the coupon at your local store and load it to your card.

All third-party gift cards seem to be included in this offer, but not Kroger gift cards. Should work on fixed-denomination prepaid Visa/MC/Amex gift cards too.  Wireless Phones & Airtime cards are excluded from this promotion.

Our Verdict

You can get double fuel points on weekends this summer on non-gift card purchases too; do your shopping on the weekend and get both deals at once. Remember to max out your Chase Freedom 5x grocery by the end of June.

Usually, every 1000 fuel points will get you a discount of $1 per gallon with a 35-gallon limit, a max value of $35 per 1000-points. (These details do vary by store and region.) If you buy $250 in gift cards and max out the 35-gallons, it’ll end up a 14% discount on the gift cards.

You can also get free cell phone service with Kroger when you earn fuel rewards points.

Buy the gift cards separately from any groceries. When GCs purchased with groceries, only the 2X points is happening. Happened to me two weeks ago and again this week when 4X was active each time.

It happened to me last weekend (2X promo weekend). I didn’t realize it until recently. Kroger et al are making things more and more difficult to make use of their promo.

Besides my personal experience, Customer Service gal said the same thing.
Without more DPs, you do not have enough, but a warning indicates some reports would IMO be appropriate.

If you use your Amex Blue Cash card with the 6% cash back on grocery purchases, you can end up with a full 20% off of the $250 GC. I do this all the time up to $6K per year.

Another thing that works at Kroger – is to first buy a Kroger Gift Card using the credit card – they will take Kroger cards as payment for gift cards. When they have the 4x promo you can use it to buy any gift cards for places you normally shop anyway. That can add quite a few fuel points to your account. You can also redeem points up to the price of gas to the nearest dime per gallon. I recently purchased a full 35 gallons for $1.02! (2.9 cents a gallon)

I should also mention using a Kroger GC at the fuel pumps means you get the 6% off (from AmEx) for the fuel as well, vs. the usual 3% discount for gas. I just keep a Kroger CG with some balance on it for use on the fuel purchases.

How do you redeem the fuel for up to the price of gas to the nearest time? I thought you could only do up to $1.00 off per gallon?

Safeway, Kroger, Stop &Shop, and many other grocery stores are having these promotions. Anyone think this a trap to draw out MS’ers and shut them down?

Just being cautious. Shut downs or bans by banks have happened.

Just tried to check out $500 Amazon gc and paid by cc but was declined. The cashier called the manager to override but he said only gc lower than $100 can be paid by CC. Anyone has the same situation or it’s just my local Smith’s or the manager?

I just buy the $50 fixed price because of this

I don’t have Kroger gas stations nearby but I do have Shell, which allows up to 20c off per gallon. Will this stack with the IHG discount?
