Radpad Coding as Travel with Apple Pay (3x UR Angle)

As reported last week, Radpad is back in the rent payments business. Recent report confirm that Radpad is still coding as travel when the payment is made with Apple Pay (1, 2). In the past, Android Pay worked the same, so that is likely the case as well, though we don’t yet have data points on that. We now have a data point that it’s working with Android Pay too.

This is excellent news. Radpad does charge a steep 2.99% fee to use a credit card, but being that it earns Travel points, it’s now possible to ‘buy’ travel spend at 2.99%

Here’s where Radpad can be useful with Apple/Android Pay:

  • Get your $300 Sapphire Reserve credit by paying your rent
  • ‘Buy’ UR points at 1 penny per point with the Sapphire Reserve card
  • ‘Buy’ UR points at 1 penny per point with INK Preferred which also earns 3x on travel
  • ‘Buy’ ThankYou points at 1 penny per point with Citi Prestige (1) or, presumably, the Premier card

Here’s where Radpad can be useful with direct payment:

The bigger angle would be if Radpad runs any sort of promotion in the future with lower fees.

Any updates whether Citi Thank you premier codes as travel with apple pay ?

  2. eclipsor says:

this is perfect to not have to worry about getting my CSR travel credit this year, thank you! and the 3x on travel is a perfect wash, thank you!

    • eclipsor says:

so you’re supposed to do it through the app right? I’m not seeing an option to use Android or Apple Pay, just prompted to input my card number

      • R says:

how are you using it? I see the option of android pay

        • eclipsor says:

on the app on my Samsung. Do you see that option AFTER inputting in your credit card number? it’s asking for just the 16 digit number alone and says “your card won’t be charged yet”

this is after putting in the landlord info

  3. eclipsor says:

figured it out, forgot I had Android Pay disabled, thank you for your help!

Is there any reason why Chase (or anyone else) would get upset at the prospect of putting rent on a credit card on a regular basis? Just wondering. It’s generally not an expense that is “charged”. It would probably be a cash advance if Chase had it their way.

Also, Chase may eventually get upset that they are giving out so many URs for this, but they would have to file a complaint with Visa to have them re-coded.

    • eclipsor says:

I’m sure Chase would be upset about a lot of what we do here

    • Lrdx says:

I’m constantly putting my Bay Area rent ($3k ranges) on my FCU.. I don’t gain anything, my landlord charges 2.2%, and I value UR at 1.455, net result is +0.03% cashback.

I don’t think that would be an issue, but I think Chase will stop crediting the $300 against this.

  5. Joe says:

Is it possible to just use the website https://www.onradpad.com/paymyrent to make my payment via CSR and still be coded as ‘Travel’?
If not, why is it different using the mobile pay version and not just the “standard” website?

  6. ted says:

I’ve scheduled my April rent with my CSR (Apple Pay), they haven’t billed me yet, will update once they do

  7. Mike says:

Is it usual for RadPad to request driver license and a PDF color lease agreement before processing? I’m a new customer and just signed up and scheduled my first rental payment. Now they are asking for ID and lease. Just wondering how many people were asked to send those in before or something triggered the additional documentation request? This is a bona fide rent payment.

    • R says:

i am in same boat here, waiting for someone to response to my question in other thread for radpad

    • R says:

I provided the info they needed and card was charged today though showing as RADPAD in pending charges, need to wait for a day or two to see how it gets coded

  8. Liz says:

Can you use Radpad to pay mortage, not just rent? Any PD?

  9. Daniel says:

Hey Chuck, you mention that this works for the ink preferred, however I can’t link my ink preferred to apple pay and other DPs agree. Is there a different method to using the ink preferred for radpad and getting the 3x?
