Another data point: I purchased a $100 GC and got the $10 e-Gift card around 1:00 pm ET today. If you want to use the e-Gift card in-store, you can use Walmart pay in their smart phone app.
Bought two walmart gift card today, $50 + $25. I doubt it because I think Walmart may think of that too when they released this promotion. I’ll update once available.
Data Point: Purchased $25 x 1 and $50 x 1 physical Walmart Gift Card on 7/26 , received $10 e-Gift Card on 8/12. The E-gift card is linked to my Walmart Account and only shows the last 4 digit of the card.

Does it apply to in-store pickups and what if the order is not picked up?
i just ordered via the app for the first time and my order was instantly canceled, i’m not sure why. i wonder if that basically counts as my first in-app purchase and since it was canceled, i’m basically not eligible for this offer anymore.
