Our Verdict
This deal only makes sense if you have a card that earns at a high rate on office supply purchases, let’s assume you earn 5% cash back:
- Purchase three $100 gift cards for $85 (-$255)
- Earn 5% cash back on purchases (+$12.75)
- Resell giftcards for 82% of facevalue to Saveya or Giftcards.com, both accept eGiftcards (+$246)
Total profit is $3.75. Obviously if you’re earning Chase UR points and value those at more than 1¢ or you’re a bulk seller that gets higher rates or you sell for a higher rate at Raise or you actually need Lowes gift cards then this deal will make more sense.
Also keep in mind Saveya/Giftcards.com limits you to selling $200 or $300 until you you become a bulk seller. You generally won’t earn portal cash back through Staples.com when purchasing giftcards either, although I’ve heard some people have reported success – so it never hurts to try (usually the smaller portals have more success).
