The Offer
- Paypal Digital Gifts on eBay is selling $100 Staples e-gift cards for $85. Limit 5 per buyer.
Here are a few ways to maximize the savings:
- Get 2% eBay Bucks. Many people (myself included) were targeted with bonus eBay Bucks for today. In my case, I got 8% back in eBay Bucks on my $425 purchase (5 x $85). You need to activate this bonus offer in order to get the bonus Bucks. Once activated, the bonus amount will show up at time of purchase.
- Go through Befrugal or Topcashback and get an additional 1.5% back.
- Use an INK card. In the past, INK has earned 5x on such eBay purchases.
These are e-gift cards, not physical gift cards. If you’re buying them with intent to resell, e-gift cards are harder to use.
E-gift cards can be used in-store or online, but can not be used to buy other gift cards at Staples.
The Fine Print
- “Limited Quantity Available”
- Allow up to 24 hours for delivery
Our Verdict
I didn’t have anything to buy in Staples currently, but I bought it with intent to resell. Reselling e-gift cards is tricky, but I’m hoping for the best. It was really the 8% eBay Bucks that pushed me to do it. I also used up a couple eBay gift cards on the deal.
If I can manage to sell the e-gift card for 86% of its value, I’ll profit $1 from the sale, plus $34 from the eBay Bucks and around $6 from the portal and another $8.50 from credit card points (I don’t have INK). Total profit of $49.50. Here’s hoping for the best!
How long does it take for the Topcashback CB to show in my account ?
Usually for Ebay it takes 24 hours. But can be little more. All my ebay purchases always tracked so far. So wait little longer if needed.
Thanks KP for responding. I had similar experiences.
sell them on cardpool, get 405 check.
Yeah, maybe that’s what I’ll end up doing.
That is what I did to make it easy. With the 4X eBay Bucks you still come out ahead, although Ink would make it even better.
Chuck, If you don’t need money right away, you can wait for Raise. Right now its very high discount, but sometime it sells for as less as 3%. With $1.5 extra, you may be around 83.5
But you can try saveya.com, I had bad experience with them but you had bad experience with giftcards.com too. I guess there also its YMMW situation.
That was my plan, to wait a week and see what’s doing on Raise.
KP, how did you get accepted as a bulk seller on giftcards.com? Did you just send in the form and get accepted? I’d love to get into them.
Now I’m working on Giftcardzen. Maybe that will work out.
My issue with saveya is from the IT angle, I can’t seem to complete a checkout with them no matter how many times I try. Seems like I’m the only one having this issue.
Chuck, I filled out online form but they didn’t respond so I sent them email with my phone number. Their Rep called me and then asked few questions, like, where I get cards from and why I want to sell cards etc. I said that I buy them when credit card points etc available or when I get deals to buy them etc. Then she said how much you are going to sell per month, I told them more than $5000 still she approved me only for $3500 max every month. So its not a big amount. But I still like them as lot of GCs we can sell online at same rate (which is unparalleled). Try again, may be they approve this time.
I want to try for Giftcard Zen too as I can’t stop at $3500 limit due to which I am holding so much Giftcards, Let me know how it goes.
Regarding Saveya.com, I don’t think its only your problem, I think their website sucks. One of my sell order is in limbo from 6 weeks. Till they figure out, I am trying to avoid them.
Thanks KP. Maybe I’ll try giftcards.com again. They email-denied me, never spoke to anyone.
Chuck, I don’t think you will be able to sell E-GC at 86%. None of the reseller accept them at full value. Giftcards.com (also saveya.com) won’t accept E-GC. So even though you will be able to make money, it will decrease the profit margin. Still a good buy. You will be able to make around $28 even with selling at loss of 4%.
I am not able to buy it, as somehow, I keep getting error messages “Can’t process paypal payment, return to merchant”, I called Paypal, they have no idea.
I am getting the same error as well. Maybe its merchant related.
I’ve had these kinds of issues buying gc on ebay before. Luckily, this time it went smoothly for me.
Are you sure giftcards.com isn’t taking them electronically? They usually do. I’ve had other problems with them, but it’s news to me that they sometimes tell you to mail it in.
Yes I am sure Chuck. Since I had a chance to become bulk seller with Giftcards.com, I explored them very well. I went through my bulk seller dashboard. They accept only Physical Staples Cards.
If I’m understanding you right, this is a Staples-specific issue. Meaning all other gc are acceptable as e-gc, only not Staples. Correct?
Not always, they’ve recently starting not accepting lots of e-gc for some reason. It usually states on the page if they do or don’t accept them. Very annoying, I think it’s when they can be redeemed online that they don’t accept them but not entirely sure.
Will is right. They don’t accept quiet a few GC online. On the main page, when you enter info and select PIN available, they will let you know.
I just sold two cards for 173$ to saveya.com. I don’t know why you guys say it’s not possible. Giftcards.com however wanted the physical card. Am I missing anything here?
May be its my mistake. I assumed about saveya.com as they follow same pattern as Giftcards.com (as giftcards.com is main company). I knew Giftcards.com policy only. I had so bad experience with Saveya.com, I am still waiting to get paid for my $150 sell to Saveya done on 01/30/15 and that’s even after 14-15 phone calls and more emails to them.
But Chuck you can try Saveya.com if they are not asking to mail cards.
I went through the process at Saveya, it let me enter the card numbers and codes and then on the final screen (after entering my CC information) it said the cards need to be mailed in.
Thanks Shawn.
Any idea where you might resell the e-gift cards? I can’t find anyone who will accept them (at least for a worthwhile value).
Yeah, e-gcs are tough. I had Raise as my backup plan, if nothing else works out.
Did you find a company buying at 86% for e-gift cards. The best I saw was 81% without mailing physical cards in.
My intention was giftcards.com, but others are commenting below that they aren’t accepting e-gc’s for this. They usually accept e-gc for the same payout as physical gc, see this link:
