1,750 Southwest Point 1800-Flower Deal Will Not Count Towards Companion Pass

A few days ago we let readers know about a deal that 1800-flowers are running with Southwest where you can earn 1,750 Southwest points on purchases of $29.99 or more. The original promo link we shared was this: https://creditcards.chase.com/southwest/my-account/card-pointers. That link does not contain any fine print for the offer and has a small advertisement for the Southwest companion pass.

In the past points from these offers have counted towards the companion pass. Unfortunately there is also another offer link:  http://www.1800flowers.com/southwest-airlines-13996?cm_mmc=BGS-_-southwest-_-vday-_-175p&ddkey=http:Entrance&. At the bottom of this page there is fine print (emphasis mine):

Member will receive 1750 bonus points for each order of $29.99 or more, excluding service/delivery fees and taxes through February 15, 2015. An order can include more than one item. Bonus points can be earned on purchases made at www.1800flowers.com or by calling 1-800-Flowers (1-800-356-9377) and mentioning Promo Code RR36. Items may vary and are subject to availability, delivery rules and times. Offers available online and by phone. Offers cannot be combined, are not available on all products and are subject to restrictions, limitations, and blackout periods. Minimum purchase price $29.99. Prices and charges are subject to change without notice. Void where prohibited. Must provide promotion code RR36 and Rapid Rewards account number at the time of purchase. No points will be awarded on cancelled orders. *Bonus points will not count toward A-List, A-List Preferred, or Companion Pass qualification. Please allow six to eight weeks for bonus points to post to your account. © 2015 1-800-FLOWERS.COM, INC.

It looks like these points will not count towards the 110,000 points required for the Southwest companion pass. If you’ve already made a 1800-flowers using the promo code RR36, I’d be making a complaint with Chase that their promotional page did not correctly list the fine print of the offer and you were mislead into making a purchase because of this.

I hate when fine print is written incorrectly or doesn’t appear at all. It’s misleading advertising and terrible for consumers. Make your voice heard and hopefully Chase, Southwest & 1800-flowers will do the right thing and make these points count towards the companion pass.

Interestingly there is also another promotion that is for 1,000 points and that offer doesn’t have the same exclusion. Personally I’m staying well away from 1800-flowers.

William,

How do you suggest going about trying to get Southwest/Chase to honor this? What you would say in an e-mail to them? Thanks

I think that it’s a big mistake to assume that the terms are correct when they say that points won’t count towards the companion pass. Bonus points from 1800flowers have always counted before. Southwest would have to recode their systems to make it otherwise for this promotion. I find that very unlikely. It’s much more likely that whoever wrote the terms was simply misinformed.

@FM – MAYBE you’re right. Perhaps not. Let the buyer beware.

Certainly, those who purchased before the additional wording was inserted into the T&C have a legitimate complaint.

It turns out that I was wrong. Many readers have now reported in that their points are NOT counting towards the companion pass.
