[DEAD] Amex Airline Credit: Keep your Southwest Giftcards $100 or Less?

Update: DEAD

[Update 6/23/19: Far as I can tell from the more recent data points, even Southwest gift card amounts of $200 (and likely higher too) ARE being reimbursed. The issue was probably just a glitch whereby for a few days the earlier in the month it wasn’t working.]

Since around 10 days ago, it appears that Southwest e-gift card purchases done to trigger the Amex airline incidental credit only works when purchasing $100 or less. Purchases $101 and above don’t seem to be triggering the credit, according to some reader reports and Flyertalk data points. Update: Now I’m unsure if the issue is the denomination, it may be something else. One reader reports getting a $200 Southwest giftcard credited only a few days ago. Yet another reader did NOT get a $50 gift card credited from May 30. Hopefully we’ll figure out what’s going on over time.

To recap the current state of gift card purchases is as follows:

I purchased a $128 fare on Southwest and received an AMEX credit for a portion of the fare. First, I purchased a $45 E-Gift card. I then applied the $45 gift card to the fare and the $83 balance was charged to my AMEX gold card. Three days later an $83 credit was shown on my account. Flyertalk thread for SW AMEX credits also shows other cases of this occurring.

Possibly the only way to use the $100 dollar credit although rather have the GC. good work around if you can do it though. Thanks for the DP

Purchased $83 Southwest Gift Card on Aspire 6/27, still not credit as of today and tracker on benefit page still shows $83 credit left. Not looking promising. So using Amex cards airline credit for gift cards is officially dead????

Does it matter if you were logged in to Rapid Rewards when you purchased the gift card? Without thinking, I did log in to Rapid Rewards and purchased a $200 GC. Hope it still triggers the credit… does anyone have experience with being logged in to rapid rewards when purchasing?

So for those unlucky few like me, is there anyway to claim the reimbursement back? Bought on 9th, still no credit. Can I call?
