FutureCard Visa Debit card is a prepaid debit account with a FDIC insured bank backing which offers 5% cashback on select categories:
- Trains, buses, subway, metro, light rail & commuter rail
- Online marketplaces for gently-used clothing & thrift stores
- Electric vehicle charging
- Bike shops (bikes, ebikes, cycling accessories and repairs)
- Electric scooters, mopeds and bikeshares
They also offer 6% cashback on select health/eco-friendly partners and 1% cashback on all other purchases.
Currently there is no physical card and you can only use the card number online or you can add it to your mobile wallet and use in-store.
They also offer a referral program whereby the referrer and new member each get $15. Do not share or use referral links from the comments below as those are an older link version. Instead, go this dedicated page to share and find referral links. You must click the referral link on your mobile phone, and download from there the Future app, to be eligible.

I love this card. Never thought I’d ever get 5% back on thrift store purchases.
$5 Amazon reload triggered it. I like free money 🙂
I got targeted for this on Saturday (July 19), I haven’t used my Future card in a while, so that’s likely why. I added the offer, funded some new money to the account via debit card, spent $6 at a cafe and immediately got the $5 cash back posted to my account.
Honestly, I have not been impressed with this card. As many others have said, I could never get it to fund by debit card and finally had to use the slow method of funding from a bank account. Then they extended the 100% offer of MTA for me because of those issues, but the offer did not properly credit at 100%.
Honestly, it just doesn’t seem worth the hassle.
Finally got value by setting up ACH auto transfer of $100 when balance dips below $100 (not keeping any real money in a fintech thing). Use it only for MTA and CitiBike. Having my subway/bus capped at $26.70 a week isn’t bad (5% + $5 for hitting the weekly limit). But I agree that this isn’t an easy card to use.
Adding the Future account and routing to my bank and pushing works. Debit from several banks has been smooth, but if you load much it’ll fail (seems to be maybe a max per rolling period or something). Either, or bank added from the Future app, has been smooth if you slow down for a while.
Future’s debit card funding is done through Astra. I think most likely it is because something is wrong on Astra’s side. Did you use Astra before through other fintechs or banks? If there is any information mismatch between your previous information and your current information, it could cause issues with Astra.
Offer is likely targeted, cannot click activate on the 5for5 offer
Same! I click “Activate” and nothing happens. Tried multiple browsers.
Same for me.
works fine for me. interesting.
Open the link via the app on your phone.
Stupid app refuses to let me fund my card. I am literally trying to use your service!
At all, or just from a debit card? I was unable to get them to register a card for P2, kept getting an error from whatever provider they use. I contacted them and they said “you won’t be able to use a card”. I just fund it via EFT. Takes longer, but it works.
That must have been what was working earlier. Let me try that.
Did this get resolved? Have seen a few other posts like this, curious if anyone has figured out why this is happening for some people. Guessing you’ve reached out to support? Hope it’s fixed now.
No, I just stopped using it. Per Bill’s comment, I will try not using the debit card and see if that method works.
Extending the 5% groceries is real nice, especially because my pharmacy is in a grocery store and it gets counted just the same.
Even with the 4.10% APY savings rate I don’t feel too comfortable with keeping a large balance in a fintech associated bank, so unjust do instant transfers from my debit card about $200 a time. Money goes in immediately, never had an issue.
For the second month in a row I use this account to pay my Duke Energy bill via ACH payments to avoid convenience fees, and the system automatically credited that ACH transaction as 5% eligible. I used to have to email support for this but this is a nice qol improvement.
Feel the same way about the fintech account, I only keep a small amount in the account and then pull more from debit card when needed.
I’m just waiting for the VC funding to dry up like PointCard did. They threw money at anybody that was willing to look their way.
Till then, the abuse will continue.
i really tried to use future and give them a shot.
1)i cannot fund my acccount to save my life. either via debit or external. i get errors.
2)i once was able to fund and make a purchase months ago and the cash back is unavailable to withdraw or be cashed from my account.
so not impressed
That all sounds crappy, guessing you reached out to their support?
In terms of cashing out points that is odd, I’ve never experienced a minimum number of points to redeem and they redeem at a straight 1 pt = 1 cent.
Hoping it gets resolved for you!
Gold Jacket, Green Jacket, who gives a shit?
