Over 20% Off Prepaid Phone Refills at Bestbuy.com (Discount + Amex Offer)

The Offer

Bestbuy.com sells prepaid refills for Verizon, ATT, Tmobile, and many of the smaller carriers as well.

Aside from the 19% discount you can get by stacking these two promotions, you might also get 2% back by going through Splender; other portal options can be found here. Also, get 2% back from Best Buy Rewards which can be used toward a future purchase. And don’t forget to Shopkick if you do this purchase in-store.

The expiration is unknown.

Our Verdict

Some people won’t want to stock up $250 worth on phone refills, but you can use this toward the $250 threshold for the Amex Offer, if you have other things to buy at Best Buy which can push you over the threshold.

I would guess this offer is available in Best Buy stores as well, but we don’t know that for certain.

Discount is valid in store on Verizon Wireless Prepaid variable load ($10-100) cards as well.

The discount is also in store. They do charge tax (at least on VZW cards), but then you don’t pay tax when you load it to your account (which you would do, if you’d pay with cc/dc).

I haven’t tried it, but the Visa Checkout $10 off $100 might work as well (checkout with Amex card).

Terms of the VISA checkout deal say “Discounts not available on gift and prepaid card purchases, services purchased and/or taxes paid.”

I tried buying Cricket refills. But Best Buy added sales tax on top. Am I missing something? I don’t get charged sales tax on my cricket auto refills. Kind of kills the whole deal for me.

Same with my Tmobile cards. Best Buy is charging me local tax (8.25%) and 911 fees. Target charges me neither where I usually buy them. No bueno.

I usually buy T-mobile refills online through T-Mobile web portal. They do charge a tax. VESTA *T-MOBILE -55.13 for $50 refill. Didn’t know that can buy it without tax. Thanks!

In store Target also charges the local tax on prepaid phone cards. It is a new tax. I don’t know if it is limited to California or not.

Postpaid charge tax as per their bills. Prepaid charge tax when sell the prepaid card. Looks like it does have a sense.

Any way to pay a postpaid tmobile plan with these?

That’s a good question. Warning! Seeing the AMEX $250 offer I thought it would be a slick idea to purchase enough Tmobile gift cards to pay my Tmobile bill for the next 3-4 months. An upfront cell phone payment to snag an AMEX bonus and 250 best buy reward points ($5) before the devaluation, right? No! Like Brandon, whatever Tmobile plan I have these refill cards do not work. I wasted time dealing with multiple TMobile reps by phone and in-store before fortunately and thankfully returning the giftcards at BB for a refund. Phew.

Thanks for the warning, but it seems strange. Because I was thinking to do the same (I have postpaid T-mobile plan), and on these refills I saw “for your monthly or pay to go plan”. I thought it could be applied for postpaid plans. But what stopped me are the taxes (7%) that BB charges. almost no gain at all.

Lucky you! I accidentally bought a bunch of these prepaid cards back in 2014. Later when I realized the mistake, I tried everything but Bestbuy wouldn’t accept the return…It was marked as “unrefundable”… I still have those cards now, what a waste of money!
