Alongside the temporary Platinum benefits, new co-branded benefits coming soon and limited time Business Platinum incentives for new cardholders coming soon. American Express has also announced new travel benefits for 2021. They are as follows:

  • The Hotel Collection Complimentary Night or Property Credit: U.S. Consumer and Business Platinum Card Members and Gold Card Members can receive a complimentary night or property credit of $150 or more after booking an eligible stay through American Express Travel at participating Hotel Collection properties. Required booking dates and travel dates vary by property. Terms apply.

Required booking dates and travel dates vary by property. Terms apply.
  • Recommended Flights: Soon, U.S. Consumer and Business Platinum Card Members can access lower fares on select routes, flights and seats, with the ability to save up to 20% off the publicly listed ticket price. These lower fares are available with participating airlines for eligible flights and seats booked between January 10, 2021 and March 31, 2021 for travel from January 10, 2021 through May 31, 2021. Terms apply.
  • Pay with Points on Prepaid Car Rental Bookings: For those renting a car to enjoy a local getaway, Membership Rewards® program enrolled U.S. Card Members can now use Pay with Points or earn 2X Membership Rewards points on prepaid car rental bookings through AmexTravel.com.

Looks like the majority of these won’t go into affect until January 10, 2021.

Terms don’t specify Platinum card for the +2 MR on rental cars. Green is now 5x when prepaid?

How are these hotel offers any different than what they’ve always offered as “Special Offers” here https://www.americanexpressfhr.com/fhr/offers

It’s always the uber expensive hotels that offer additional $250+ property credits.

Yeah, that’s where the special offers are. Just because the link’s the same doesn’t mean there aren’t better offers now than before.

1. It seems that a lot more than usual are offering a >=$250 credit.
2. Many that aren’t, are offering a 3rd/4th/5th night free. I’d rather have free nights than on-property credits.

I counted 104 US properties in the Special Offers section of FHR with one of the above (>$250 credit or free night). That’s 1/3 of all US hotels on FHR.

Not saying it’s very valuable, just pointing out that it is, indeed, better than the usual selection.

This sure doesn’t sound like anything that would be truly valuable.

Flight discount isn’t that great since it requires travel in the first half of the year. The FHR credit might be nice however since it should stack with the $200 AMEX Travel credit that most people received

What’s the $200 travel credit that you mentioned?

Not sure I know which $200 AMEX Travel credit you’re talking about?

People who had a personal Platinum card that renews between April 2020 and March 2021 get a $200 credit for bookings made through the AmEx Travel portal. (The credit becomes available the first day of the renewal month.)

Some people. It’s targeted. I am apparently not targeted, as are others on FT. (my card renews this month)

Exactly. I renewed in September and contacted customer service because I didn’t get the $200 credit. They said Marketing didn’t target me.

Already get 2x on car rentals. That’s not an added benefit.

Maybe I’m missing something but haven’t a lot of fine hotels & resorts properties already been offering a third night and resort credit already? Or would this be an additional stack on top of that – e.g., stay 2 nights for the price of 4?

I bet this ends up being stupid complicated and difficult to squeeze out value from, because Amex.

Isn’t paying for car rentals with points already a thing? But with some 0.7c/point value, so it’s filed in the “hell no” category. (Or is that just hotels?)

Maybe this is why all the hotels I’m trying to book on FHR are showing as unavailable. Let’s hope it’s just them updating the system.
