Air Canada Finally Offering Full Refunds On COVID-19 Affected Flights

Air Canada has announced that they are now offering full refunds on flights that were affected by COVID-19 since February 2020. This covers all flights that were cancelled by Air Canada or voluntarily cancelled by passengers. This obviously includes people that were previously issued a travel voucher or miles as compensation (full refund replaces these, not in addition to). You must request your full refund by June 13, 2021. In addition for flights booked after April 13th if a flight is cancelled or rescheduled by more than three hours a full refund will be offered.

Absolutely pathetic that it has taken Air Canada this long. The DoT had previously issued two enforcement notices to airlines reminding them of their responsibility to provide refunds cancelled flights and that they must do so in a timely manner, Air Canada claimed that this wasn’t the case at all and they didn’t have to provide a refund. It’s disappointing that the DoT never issued anything other than those enforcement notices.
