  • To qualify for this promotional offer, your account must be open, not in default at the time of fulfillment, and your Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Card must be loaded into the Amazon.com account of an eligible Prime member to earn 10% Back.

Our Verdict

Should be able to buy an Amazon or Whole Foods gift card and lock in the discount.

Separately, Amazon is offering a free $10 Amazon Prime Day credit for Prime members who spend $10 or more at Whole Foods between 7/11/18 and 7/17/18. That will stack beautifully with this Chase Amazon offer, and should work fine on gift cards as well if you don’t have any groceries to buy.

There’s also a third deal going on at Whole Food July 13th through 15th to get Ben & Jerry’s and Talenti ice cream pints at 2 for $6, plus 10% off for Prime members. July 14th or 15th would be the sweet spot to get all three deals in one trip.

How long does it take to get the $10 credit email? I returned from WF store 2 hours ago and still haven’t seen that email.

Also can WF GC be used to buy other GCs or Amazon GC in WF stores?

I got mine instantly. Did you make sure your account was linked? I had to DL the Whole Foods app in line even after my wife said she registered our phone number on our Amazon account via desktop. Tried to use it by giving them our phone number and it didn’t work; after downloading I signed in the Whole Foods app and notice the “use my mobile number at checkout” wasn’t checked. Wife and I had never used it before so I’m guessing it’s turned off by default.

Amazon’s initial email apparently explicitly excluded gift card purchases. However, the email I received and the current version on Amazon’s website removed that sentence. Still, there’s enough doubt left, created by the long list of vague exclusions.

According to in-store WFM CS employees, the gift cards sold in store are stocked by a third-party (Blackhawk Network). That would make GCs ineligible, because “(vii) purchases from certain third-party vendors operating at Whole Foods Market sites.” I hope they are wrong.

Amazon Card Support by phone is useless. Spoke to two reps (both apparently based in India), only to go in circles, without a straight answer to the question of whether GC purchases in-store at WFM would be eligible for this 10% cashback offer. Some bits that might be helpful are: 1) The reps simply have not received that kind of info. 2) Look for the Prime logo on the goods in-store to determine eligibility. (Well, there’s certainly none on the GC racks).

Unless they get level 3 data to sift through I don’t see them knowing if you bought a gift card in store or asparagus water.

Amazon owns Whole Foods, so level 3 data and more is a given.

Amazon doesn’t own chase, so no it’s not given.

Just as a data point, bought three $100 VGC (metabank) and one Amazon $80 variable. Got the email confirming the $10 applied to my Amazon account. Used my Prime Visa for the 10%, will report back when it posts for confirmation.

Yeah, I got the $10 Amazon credit for 4x VGCs too. Currently the giftcardmall website AND phone system are screwed up, so the VGC PINs can’t be changed. I did finally get a US-based Amazon rep to confirm that GCs can earn the 10% CB for up to $400. Hopefully she knew what she was talking about.

I also got an Alliant VISA debit card offer to spend $100+ at Amazon on 7/16-17 for a $10 credit.

Having the same issues setting PIN number also, went ahead and liquidated on my electric and gas bills. Registering them seemed to be fine, just issues with resetting pins.

Question: Is it worth it to buy the $100 VGC’s considering the fee? I was wondering if I should just buy AMZN GC’s and be happy with that?

You make $4 on each as the fees are 5.95. This isn’t taking into account the $10 account credit however. They had a bunch of other store gift cards also, like Amazon, Best Buy, Nike, ect.

Almost always go for cash. There’re many more opportunities to score AmazonGC at significant discounts or for free (raffle at events, or as banking bonus without 1099).

I ended up with the VGC’s instead of Amazon GC. The rack was completely wiped out of Amazon GC’s so I bought the VGC’s. When I was checking out, I saw an Amazon GC on the next to cashier but decided to just stick with what I had.

Can confirm the 10% applies to Amazon gift cards. Transaction posted with “+ Prime Day Extra 5% Back at Whole Foods” in addition to the normal “+ 5% Back on Whole Foods Market purchases.”

Made me look. Got 10% on 4×100 VGCs too:

+ Prime Day Extra 5% Back at Whole Foods 2,000.00
+ 5% Back on Whole Foods Market purchases 2,119.00
Total Points 4,119.00
